Clifton "Bill" James Wilson, 94, of Hickory, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Carolina Caring in Newton.
He was born February 10, 1929 in Lincoln County to the late Lander Junius Wilson and Johncie Bryant Wilson. Bill was a faithful leader and member of the churches he was privileged to attend and a United States Army veteran. He was a longstanding builder and remodeler in the community and was owner of Wilson Home Remodeling. Bill spent many days helping people with construction projects on their homes. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his longtime friends, his brothers, son and grandsons. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Opalee Aiken Wilson; brothers, Howard Junius Wilson and Coye Columbus Wilson; sisters, Donnie Sigman, Mary B. Houser, Leona Cansler, and Eunice Yount.
Those left to cherish his memory are; wife of 22 years: Margaret Moore Wilson of the home; sons: Berlin Gene Wilson and wife Laura of Charlotte, Dr. Ernest Lee Wilson and wife Susan of Hickory; daughter: Teresa Hartzoge of Hickory; brother: Glenn Lester Wilson of Hickory; sister: Ruby Jo Dellinger of Hickory; grandchildren: Dawn Michelle Hartman and husband Chris, Dr. Clifton Scott Wilson and wife Anne Marie, Nicholas Ryan Wilson and wife Lexi; great-grandchildren: Elisabeth Anne Wilson, Jonathan Riley Hartman, Reagan Caroline Hartman, Theophilus Luke Wilson.
A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2023 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Dr. Ernest Lee Wilson and Rev. Dr. Clifton Scott Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers are; Bill Smith, Mike Auton, David Cansler, Tommy Cansler, Ronald Huffman, and Mike Wilson.
