Coleen Ward Hayes, 92, of Hickory, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at Trinity Village, Hickory.
She was born Sept. 30, 1930, to Franklin and Elizabeth Ward in Wichita Falls, Texas. Coleen graduated from NorthSide High School in Ft. Worth, Texas, where she served as a member of the Drum Majorette Squad.
Coleen married the love of her life, Teddy Hayes in 1958. They were married for 63 years and shared four children together. Coleen was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loyal follower of Christ and dedicated her life to learning, teaching, and sharing the love of Christ with others. She served as a deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher, craft group leader and missions advocate for many years at Lakeview Baptist Church, HIckory.
Coleen was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Hayes.
She is survived by her sons, Allen Hayes of Hickory, Ronnie Hayes (Dawn) of High Point, John Hayes (Jamie) of Conover; daughter, Diane Hayes Wilcox (Jeff) of Boone; grandchildren, Scottie Wilcox (Tabatha) of Deep Gap, Garrett Wilcox (Kasey) of Fleetwood, Kelly and Erin Hayes of Concord, John and Cole Hudgins of High Point, Kalob and Kendalyn Teague of Conover, Suni Bumgarner (Red) of Granite Falls, Kyle Bumgarner (Danielle) of Mountain View, Derek Bumgarner of Vale; and great-grandchildren, Jaxsen Wilkerson, Andin, Baylee, Rylie, Ellarie, and Maggie Wilcox, Autumn and Titus Bumgarner.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Grant officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Village Activities Department, which brought such joy and happiness to Coleen's life each day, 1265 21st St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
