Danny Poteat Obituary
April 26, 1945 - October 3, 2024
Danny Robert Poteat, 79, of Taylorsville, passed away October 3, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born April 26, 1945 in Catawba Co., he was the son of the late Woodrow and Myrtie Yount Poteat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Poteat and brother, Larry Poteat.
Danny was a graduate of Hickory High School and served in the US Air Force. He was the Co-founder and Co-owner of Poteat Motor Lines, Inc.
He loved anything related to water including skiing, boating, riding his sea-doo, the beach and beach music. He was an avid golfer and often loud when he missed a shot.
Danny had a gregarious personality and loved being around people. He was a good friend to many and would be there for anyone who needed him. He was kind, caring, and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He absolutely adored his family and was always involved in their lives. Danny will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving companion, Madelyn Iver; son Mark Young and wife Linda; Billy A. Poteat and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Colby Young, Lauren Sweet; great – grandchild, Garrison Sweet and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 7th, 2024 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with The Rev. Dan Duke officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., in the Jack Bass Memorial building at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Dear Mark, I was so very sad to hear about Danny. What a legend, what a source of energy and light for our family. I have so many fond memories of his random acts of kindness and his relentless nature in making people laugh. I can't count the times he helped me learn to water ski. Boy, was Dad proud. He was a faithful and loyal friend to Daddy for so many years. I will be forever grateful of the memories they shared together. God Bless you and your family as you grieve his loss.
