Donald "Donnie" Ray Anderson, 71, of Hickory went to meet the Lord Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Catawba Valley Medical Center, after an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Caldwell County, to the late Carl and Lethel Griffin Anderson. Donnie was a member of Burns Memorial Baptist Church in Valdese. He most enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. Donnie's greatest passion was restoring old cars and building street rods. He also enjoyed spending time at the local Waffle House with the "boys" and hanging out at the garage with the guys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Darius Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Patricia Grindstaff Anderson of the home; daughters, Shana Brown and husband, Buddy, of Granite Falls, Sharon Raines and husband, Frank, of Claremont; sons, Stacy Carswell and wife, Lorie, of Lenoir, Joseph Carswell and wife, Teresa, of Taylorsville, Nathaniel Carswell and wife, Lauren, of Greensboro; brothers, Terry Anderson and wife, Janice, of Granite Falls, Kenny Anderson and wife, Teresa of Florida; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, "Mick."

A service to celebrate Donnie's life will be held Monday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, in Newton. The Revs. Dwight Lowman and Tim Hayton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.
