November 21, 1942 - August 22, 2021
Mr. Gene Caroll Holmes Sr., 78, of Granite Falls, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Trinity Village in Hickory.
Gene was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Caldwell County, to the late Berry Holmes and Annie Fox Holmes. He retired from a lifelong career with Shuford Mills/ShurTape Technologies. He was a member at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie M. Holmes; daughter, Robin Holmes; and siblings, Jack Holmes, Bea Burns, and Ray Holmes.
Surviving are his children, Kim Davis (Gene) of Hudson, Gene Holmes (JoLynn) of Florida, and Michael Bryant (Vicky) of Hickory; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service with the Revs. Stephen Owen and Tim Gouge officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the cemetery following the graveside service. They ask that COVID-19 restrictions be observed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Village for the love and care for their dad during the past two years.

I remember Gene as a
Family man that loved & talked about his family & children. I remember him
from coming into our office for Allergy Injections
Weekly. He & a friend came down during their lunch hour... We had small plastic
Pigs in our small toy box & they got one & started filling it with change when we I was expecting our 1 & sadly only child. They filled several of them & today she is still has them. She is a very loved with precious children of her own.
I am sorry to hear of your dad's, grandfather & siblings passing. He was a very Special person.

We are so sad to hear about Gene´s passing. He always had a wave and a smile at church and we have missed seeing him. What a blessing that he and Bonnie are together again. We will pray that your family has peace during this difficult time. God bless.
