Gene Setzer Obituary
November 19, 1941 - June 12, 2025
Gene Thomas Setzer, 83, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at his residence.
He was born November 19, 1941, in Catawba County, to the late Loy Cope Setzer and Ruth Sigmon Setzer. Gene was a dedicated member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, MS in Hickory, and a proud United States Army veteran. He retired from the furniture industry and was a charter member and volunteer firefighter with Oxford Fire Department. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, coaching softball, and above all, spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Hollar and her husband Ken; and niece, Pam Hollar.
Those left to cherish his memory are; his wife of 59 years: Harolene Arndt Setzer of the home; daughters: Marti Carter and husband Amos of Dandridge, TN, Denise Isenhour and husband Kelly of Conover, Suzanne Sigmon and husband Chad of Hickory; brothers: Bobby Setzer and wife Alma Jean of Claremont, Mackie Setzer and wife Betty of Claremont; sister: Janice Sigmon and husband Jerry of Claremont; grandchildren: Keaton Hinson (Leah), Mahayla Clark (Coby), Hayden Laney, Braylen Sigmon, Thaxton Isenhour, and Faith Auton (Andrew); great-grandchildren: Adalee and Brooks Clark, Oakley Hinson expected in November; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers: Nichole Barnes, Angel Hale, Lynn McCurry, Emily Fisher, and Jordan Burnett.
A memorial service to celebrate Gene's life was held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church-MS in Hickory. Pastor Shea Pennington, Pastor Dave Guelzow, and Vicar Joshua Marlatt officiated. Inurnment with military honors by American Legion Post 544 followed in the church columbarium. The family received friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church-MS.
