Homer Faw Obituary

Homer Jackson "Jack" Faw Jr.

February 3, 1938 - August 28, 2021

Homer Jackson "Jack" Faw Jr. of Newton-Conover, N.C., and Charlottesville, Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug 28, 2021, at CVMC, surrounded by his children.

Jack was born and raised in Conover by his loving parents H. Jack Faw Sr. and Sadie Jones Faw of Hickory. He moved to Charlottesville, Va., to open a branch of Drillers Service Inc., which his father had started in Hickory. After leaving DSI, he built and ran All American Carwash in Charlottesville. He was also a self-taught tree and goat farmer. He lived in Charlottesville until he decided to move back to the Newton-Conover area to be close to his family.

He enjoyed life and people. He always had a smile on his face and loved passing out Cracker Jacks to the children that he came across. He would sit and wave at the passing cars while he was sitting on his porch. When he wasn't on his porch, he could be seen riding around Conover and Newton on his red golf cart waving at everyone he passed as if he was in a parade. He had a caring and generous soul and spent his life giving to others.

His Mother taught him — love for others, always. "How we carry our burdens that counts."

His Father taught him — responsibility, confidence, honesty and how to work. "Give a man a good day's work for a good day's pay."

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Teresa Faw Hull of Nashville, Tenn.

He is survived by his other children, Julie Orlando of Irvington, N.Y., Jackson Faw of Atlanta, Ga., Cathy Buntic of Maiden, and Davis Faw of Conover. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aly Bogs-Smitley, Chappy Hull, Jaclyn Buntic, Lizzie Orlando, Rainey Hull, Wes Faw, Luca Buntic, Jessica Faw, and Kennedy Faw; and great-grandchild, Angelina Boggs-Smitley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

Jack Faw was a very dear and close friend to me. He was brilliant, strong willed and genuine. He was a thinker and a doer. His ideas were almost always brought to fruition, because he studied and applied what he discovered-like successfully goat farming and his genealogy all the way back to his family arriving from England on the Susan Constant ship in the early 1600´s.

We shared many car rides where he could even identify trees, leaves, and flowers from a distance. We shared principles about Liberty and Freedom-Ron Paul was his hero and mine, too! I was blessed to know and receive so much of Jack´s kindness. I could say so much more, because Jack had done so much in his lifetime.

Work was his middle name! He liked to have fun, listen to George Jones amongst other country music. Most don´t know that his favorite song as a young teenager was "Mockin´ Bird Hill"-sung by Patti Page. We actually played and danced to it after discovering it in a juke box when gathered together with a few of his high school reunion friends.

He was a great and good hearted man of whom I am proud to call my dear friend. I already had missed him after his move to NC - now, he will forever be everyone´s missing piece... Prayers for the Faw family - he loved his family so much and we loved him.

This was a very good man. He built and owned All American Car Wash on Long Street. Friendliest man you'd ever hope to run into. Many a interesting conversation with him. RIP Jack!

Mr Faw was my neighbor on Rio Road and could not have been a nicer person. Great to speak to, and was always offering out of his huge garden. I very much missed him after he moved. My thoughts and condolences to his family and other friends.
