Jean Propst Obituary

Jean Hooper Propst

Jean Hooper Propst, 84, of Sherrills Ford, passed away at home with family Friday, July 29, 2022.

Jean was married to the late David Evans Propst, who preceded her in death in 2019. They lived in Lincolnton on Startown Rd. for many years before moving to Lake Norman in 1989.

Jean is survived by her son, Marty David Propst and son-in-law, David Griggs of Savannah, Ga.; daughter, Missy Rosenbaum of the home; and grandchildren, Django Rosenbaum and Gabby Love Rosenbaum. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Gail P. (Norris) McRee, Betty P. (Mervin, deceased) McGee, and Cheryl P. (Sonny) Canipe, all of Newton, and their families.

During their time in Lincolnton, Jean and David owned Propst Distributing, first selling candy and sundries to stores and groceries in the area, and later transitioning to the trucking business. Starting with a single truck and refrigerated trailer, David and Jean grew the business to a small fleet of trucks in the 1980s, hauling loads throughout the South and West. During the same time, Jean ran a very successful electronics store from a garage behind her house. After moving to the lake, Jean and her daughter, Missy opened Bucko's restaurant in Mooresville in 1993. After 29 years, Bucko's, now operated by Missy, remains one of Mooresville's most successful and talked about small businesses. A remarkable lady who could do just about anything she wanted, while always remaining devoted to caring and being with family, Jean was a close and trusted friend to so many. She leaves behind a special place in our hearts and memories.

A graveside service to remember Jean will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hwy. 150 in Lincolnton.

Missy & Family, Marty & Partner, I am deeply sadden to hear about your beautiful mom. She has been such a wonderful friend through the years. She always talked to my mom sometimes it was weekly. their conversations was always the very best. Your families friendship has seen everyone through trials but always remained constant. Jean will be forever missed. You could never forget her birthday either, being a New Years girl, she always sparkled in everything she did! At least now she is free of pain and can stand straight and be the Jean who was full of life! Our prayers are with you all! What a beautiful legacy she has left for all of us who have been blessed to know her!!

My sympathies to Miss Jean's family, especially wonderful Missy. I'm a Bucko's regular and never met Jean, but, she was clearly a wonderful lady and very loved. Rest in eternal peace after a life well lived!

My sweet and so strong Aunt Jean, loving sister to my late mom Nervieleen Hooper is the last of the nine Hooper kids from Georgia and Effie Mae Hooper. What a wonderful family and many memories of caring for each other, mostly laughing and eating good meals together and enjoying anything by the water. Jeans voice was always kind and so good to hear over the phone these last years. We last talked about her blackberry pie and pear preserves recipes. Mom and I were able to spend 3 good years together with Jean Missy, Marty and kids that will stay with me forever. She told me she was ready to go to heaven and see Jesus. I prayed that she would be pain free and she seemed to be for a few days. I will always idealize and love you Jean. Missy will follow in your footsteps and so will Gabby Love.
