Joe Woods Obituary

LENOIR - Retired U.S. Navy, E-8, Joe Anderson Woods, 80, of Lenoir, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at his home. Born Oct. 26, 1928, in Caldwell County, Mr. Woods was a son of the late Joe William and Virginia Anderson Woods. Mr. Woods was a U.S. Navy E-8 retiree, serving with the Seabee 7, construction battalion. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Caudle Woods, and a brother and sister, Fred and Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Reba Pless Woods of Lenoir; children, Tina W. Triplett and husband, Ned, of Lenoir, Joseph Woods and wife, Carol, of Morganton, Virginia Anne Falzone and husband, Alfred J., of Durham, Lee Pennell and wife, Debbie, of Lenoir, Barry Pless and wife, Lindsay, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jeff Pless and wife, Lynn, of Troutman; three sisters, Elizabeth Bryant, Dare Woods and Helen Hartley, all of Lenoir; four brothers, Tommy Woods and Richard Woods, both of Lenoir, and Ray Woods and Kelly Woods, both of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Alfred, Matthew, Katelyn, Ben, Joey and Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Lane and Ryan. A celebration of Mr. Woods' life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Service, with the Revs. Robert Livingston and Todd Braswell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., NW, Lenoir, N.C. 28645 or Yadkin Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Patterson, N.C. 28661.
