June Bogle Obituary
June Mitchell Bogle
June 21, 1941 - December 2, 2024
June Mitchell "Junebug" Bogle passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2024, in Palatka, Florida. Born June Mitchell Blackstock on June 21, 1941, on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, Junebug spent her early years in a military family with assignments in Heidelberg, Germany, and in the Charleston area. When she graduated from Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina in 1959, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and after basic training and technical school, served as a cryptographer at Andrews Air Force Base until her honorable discharge in 1962. June then became a military spouse and homemaker for eleven years, married to Bruce Pethel, before relocating to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina with her three children. She then joined the United States Air Force Reserve and balanced the dual roles of single motherhood and a demanding career. Junebug always seemed to emerge as the administrative expert and "go-to" in all her job assignments at Charleston Air Force Base. Her career in the Air Force Reserve spanned several assignments across the Airlift Wing, but her fondest work memories came while supporting airlift squadrons operating the C-141 Starlifter. Her dedication and leadership were recognized when she attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and with multiple awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters. In 1988 she married Robert Bogle, a retired Master Sergeant, and she officially retired in June 2001. Along the way she and Bob moved to Melrose, Florida, where she achieved her lifelong dream of building and owning her own home on 5 acres of land. June later brought her mother to live with her in Melrose, becoming her caregiver and constant companion until her passing in 2012. This exemplified the depth of June's love, her sense of responsibility, and her unshakeable loyalty to family. Junebug also served as Bob's sole caretaker as his health declined and was doing just this when she was called home to be with the Lord. She was incredibly proud of her home and surrounding land. This sanctuary reflected her spirit: peaceful, nurturing, and full of life. She welcomed not only family and friends, but any stray or injured animal that happened to cross her path. June's love for animals was profound and unconditional and her land became a refuge for any creature that wanted to visit. Her joy came from tending to her home, walking her property, and singing to her animals, whether domesticated pets or the wild visitors who grew to know her voice. June is survived by her three children, Myra, John and Paul, four grandchildren, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Bob is survived by his daughter Cheryl. June taught us to treat others with kindness, to respect and protect nature and wildlife, and to extend a hand to those in need. She is deeply missed by those who knew and loved her and we wish her the great peace and respect she deserves.
