Mable Sue Hafer Lafone
Hickory – Mable Sue Hafer Lafone, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Born on July 17, 1938 in Alexander County, NC she was the daughter of the late Homer and Carrie Stafford Hafer. Mable was a lifetime member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, ELCA. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mable is preceded in death by, five siblings, Gertrude Fox, Arveta Beaver, Lucille Icenhour, Suma Hines, and Johnny Hafer.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her husband of 55 years, Melvin Lafone; her children, Thomas Lafone, Terry Hafer, Carol Lafone, and Jill White, along with, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Glenda Kanupp.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, ELCA at 2259 12th Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601 on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Terri Landers officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church chapel.
Mable will be laid to rest at Catawba Memorial Park at 3010 US Hwy 70 SE, Hickory, NC 28602 on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 at 11 a.m.
