Mazie Starnes Obituary

Mazie Randall Starnes

October 18, 1931 - November 24, 2022

Mazie Randall Starnes, 91, walked into the loving arms of her Savior, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022.

She was born Oct. 18, 1931, and grew up in Cleveland County, yet resided and spent most of her life in Hickory as amongst other things, the ultimate caregiver to all who crossed her path.

She retired from the Inspection Department at Lane Company, and was also a member of Millersville Baptist Church. Grandma Mazie, as she was most lovingly known, loved to cook and feed her family. Her family knows that with her passing, their stomachs and hearts will never be quite as full.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Berlie Starnes; her father, Roy Randall; her mother, Madge Davis Randall; and her sister, Mable Randall Pollard.

Grandma Mazie is survived by her son, Richard Wayne Starnes and wife, Jan, of Taylorsville; grandsons, Scott Starnes and wife, Diane, of Conover, and Benji Starnes and wife, Clarissa, of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Alana Starnes Hall and husband, Tanner, of Oakwood, Ga., Ethan Starnes of Hickory, Kayle Starnes of Knoxville, Tenn., and Miles Starnes of Hickory; brothers, Glenard Randall and Donald Randall and wife, Joyce; and her nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Nov. 27, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Springs Road Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Orren and the Rev. Brian Kerley will officiate the service.

The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Jane, Rebecca, and Cindy for tending to Mazie with love and extending the very type of caregiving she herself did so well.

Memorials may be made in Mazie Starnes' name to: Millersville Christian Academy, 130 Millersville Church Rd., Taylorsville, NC 28681.

Pallbearers will be Scott Starnes, Benji Starnes, Ethan Starnes, Miles Starnes, Tanner Hall, and Marcus Kanupp.
