Obed "Dane" Beatty
March 20, 1932 - November 1, 2025
Obed Dane Beatty, age 93, of Sherrills Ford, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 1, 2025, peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Born March 20, 1932, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Cephus Burett Beatty and Hattie Pearl Jarrett Beatty. He was a 1950 graduate of Sherrills Ford High School. Dane married Betty Marie Cornelius on July 5, 1953, and they enjoyed 60 years together until Betty passed in 2013. Dane worked on the family farm, for Broyhill Furniture and retired from Superior Petroleum & Fuel Co. with over 34 years dedicated service to keeping people warm, servicing the local marinas and service stations. Dane served as a member on the Board of Directors of Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue Department for 24 years and received an Honorary Member of the Bandys FFA supporting the FFA Hunter Safety teams with a practice field for nearly a decade. Dane was a dedicated husband, father and papaw. He was a lifelong member of the Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon and other committee roles. He was a humble and modest man that loved being outdoors, farming land and timber, was an avid gardener and loved sharing his harvest with the community. He loved his family, friends and church, never met a stranger and loved talking to people and helping others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Betty; Madge Beatty (like a sister) and many special cousins and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Greetle Beach of Connelly Springs, Jane Shoemaker and husband, Doug of Sherrills Ford, Elizabeth Bach and husband, Aubrey of Sherrills Ford; five grandsons, James Shoemaker, Jr., Jeffrey Shoemaker, James Beach, Jr. (fiancé Mandy Smith), Jacob Bach, and Caleb Bach (fiancé Kelsey Jackson).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 3 p.m. at Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church with Rev. Russ Reighley officiating. The Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
