Patricia Bellar Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Bellar

August 29, 1941 - July 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Ayscue Bellar, a beloved member of the Hickory, N.C., community for over 50 years, known for her warmth and humor.

Pat was born in 1941 in Pantego, N.C., to Dr. Virginia and Perry Ayscue, and was raised in Washington, N.C. She studied piano at East Carolina University and University of North Carolina Greensboro. Pat met and married Martin Bellar in Charlotte, N.C., before moving to Hickory when Martin started conducting the Western Piedmont Symphony. It was in Hickory where they had their son, Michael. Her gift and career of many years was teaching music to elementary school students in the Hickory City and Burke County School districts. Pat also played in the Western Piedmont Symphony and taught piano privately.

She enjoyed spending her retirement traveling with her friends and seeing musical theater, especially on Broadway in N.Y.C. Patricia passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 83, after battling liver disease.

She is survived by her son, Michael Bellar. A celebration of her life will be scheduled at an upcoming date this fall. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Arts Culture Catawba Scholarship Fund or to one's favorite charity.

I knew Pat from years ago starting with JC Bradford in Hickory where she always had a smile for everyone. Once I saw her picture, the memories came flooding back into my mind and I realized that I had known a great person in my life. She was the kind of person that you wanted to run into at the grocery store and hated to leave her when the conversation neared the end. Dear Pat. My wife Peggy and I will always remember you with a smile. See you later.

We are so sorry to hear of Pat´s passing. Pat´s smile and energy was contagious here at the YMCA where we danced and played together. She and I had the same birthday and we would always celebrate together. I have truly missed hearing stories about her trips to see shows on Broadway or what Michael was up to. She was so proud of her son and would always share his accomplishments with us. She loved it when he came back to Hickory for visits. Sending prayers for her friends and family. With Love- Toni and the YMCA gang
