Retta Grove Obituary

BLOWING ROCK - Mrs. Retta Young Grove, 92, of Blowing Rock and formerly of Hickory, died Wednesday evening, May 30, 2007, at Watauga Medical Center. Born in Mitchell County on July 3, 1914, she was a daughter of the late David McDaniel and Mary Ann Connelly Young. Mrs. Grove was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Grove Sr. Surviving are one son, George W. Grove Jr. of Henderson, Nev.; one daughter, Joan Chater of Vilas; three grandsons, Elisha Ford "Rusty" King VI of Pasadena, Calif., Christopher Barrett King of Vilas and Matthew Travis Grove of Las Vegas, Nev.; three great-grandsons, Elisha David King, Ezekiel Wayne King and Christopher Caleb King; and two sisters. A memorial service for Mrs. Retta Young Grove will be conducted at noon Monday at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Darrell Bare officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. The family respectfully requests no flowers and suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Austin and Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Grove family.
