Stephen Carpenter Obituary

Stephen Link "Spike" Carpenter of Anderson, SC, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 24, 1944 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carroll A. Carpenter and Kathleen Link Carpenter of Hickory. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Jason Link Carpenter, daughter in law DJ Carpenter and brother Clarence "Squally" Carpenter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Jane Niday Carpenter, are sons Chad and Ashley Carpenter of Hickory, NC., Nathan (Caitlin) Carpenter of Yuma, AZ., daughter Kimberly (Lamar) Williams of Pendleton, SC., grandsons Gary Hoopingarner and Stephen Carpenter, granddaughters Morgan and Juliette Carpenter, brother Carroll D. "Gus" Carpenter, sisters Patricia C. Patton and Kathy W. Smith (Austin) and many nieces and nephews.

Spike graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1962. He enjoyed watching his family and other patrons swim at Kool Park Pool over the years. He spent many more years working at Carpenter Decorating to make Christmas time special for cities and towns across the country. Both are enduring Hickory family businesses.

Spike was an avid fan of NC State Wolfpack and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Gift Processing, PO Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741-9901.

A private family memorial will be held.

Spike was a good man. My mom Annie worked for him at Carpenter Decorating. My brother Phillip and sister Pam and I would play ball with Chad and Ashley.
Thinking of you all and praying for your family.

Spike and I were school friends during our school years. We spent nights with each other and a lot of time together at the pool and decorations. I still cherish memories of our childhood.
