Steven Drum Obituary

CONOVER - Steven Lewis Drum, 60, of South College Avenue, Newton, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at his residence. Born Aug. 3, 1945, in Charleston, S.C., he was the son of Lewis F. Drum of Newton and the late Evelyn Barringer Drum. His hobbies were antiquing and gardening. He was a well-known antiques dealer in North and South Carolina. He graduated from Bandys High School, Lenoir-Rhyne College and received his master's degree from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He retired from Mecklenburg County government as a social worker. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, C. David Kepple Jr. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Lewis F. and Myrta Sherrill Drum of the Balls Creek area; life partner, Steven E. Cornett of the home; a sister, Andrea Drum Kepple of Winston-Salem; a niece, Dana Drum Kepple Pietromonaco of Seattle, Wash.; a nephew, John Nicholas Kepple IV of Seattle, Wash.; and a number of cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at the Drum Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Eric Morphis and R. Brad Thie will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the C. David Kepple Faculty Award, Forsyth Technical Community College, 2100 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104. Condolences may be sent to the Drum family at www.drumfuneralhome.com. The Drum family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Conover.

Very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I worked with him at DSS in Meck. Co. While we did not work in the same department I would frequently see Steve outside in the smoking area. He was always such a very down to earth, polite and very friendly person. May he rest in peace.
