Georgia Massey Obituary

Georgia Massey, 91, flew away to heaven on November 3rd, 2025. She was born December 16, 1933, at home in El Dara, Illinois, to Harry and LuElla Dolbeare. She was raised on a farm and was the youngest of 13 children.
She moved to California in the early 1960s and Yucca Valley became her lifelong home. She married Donald Massey in 1980 and they enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church, where they sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
Georgia was involved with the Joshua Tree Humane Society and participated in tortoise rescue. She was employed for many years in the medical administration field, waitressing and homemaking.
She had a kind and giving heart, helped many people in need and took in stray cats and dogs. She was an avid fan of the Angels and watched every game. Some of her favorite pastimes were yard-saling, reading her Bible, planning trips and having her grandchildren over for visits. Her family enjoyed gathering together for holidays and dinners. She was always making amazing meals and desserts and barely ate herself since she was always ensuring everyone had a full belly.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Donald Massey, her sister-in-law, Betty Dolbeare, her children from a previous marriage, Susan Van Order and William Van Order, daughter-in-law Debbie Van Order, grandchildren Chantel Peters and her husband, Brian, Nicole Scott, Joe Birdsell and his wife, Destiny, Michele Faulkner and her husband, TJ, Richard Birdsell, Mike Van Order, Ryan Van Order, Eric Van Order, Matt Van Order and his wife, Holly. She had multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her daughter Linda Ann Birdsell.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at Wiefels and Son at 57285 Yucca Trail in Yucca Valley. Graveside services will be held immediately after at Joshua Tree Memorial Park, 60121 Twentynine Palms Highway, Joshua Tree. The funeral is open to all friends and family.
Please do not send flowers; instead we ask you donate to the Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter at P.O. Box 1234, Joshua Tree, CA 92252 or at https://joshuatreenokillshelter.org/support-us.

Yesterday

Remembering many years ago when I lived in So. Calif. near Aunt Georgia. Thinking how blest I was to have had her nearby when I became a mother for the first time, having a baby daughter, and my own mother was so far away. Aunt Georgia was my loving and supportive mentor during that very important period of time in my young life. The years passed and many miles separated us, but we always remained close in each other's hearts and memories. My condolences to Bill and Susie, to Don, and to all the family. Sharon Six

Fond memories of Aunt Georgie and her children, my cousins. A few years back she sent me a letter with this photo of her, her two brothers Kenneth and Raymond, and the dog! I´m guessing this was taken in the late thirties. Sorry for your loss Susie, Bill and Don. Your cousin Greg D.

Suzie & Bill...your mother & my mom looked so much alike ! Aunt Georgia was the youngest of her siblings and we so enjoyed her visit to Illinois in 2012. The attached picture has her with some of her nieces and nephews. She was a special lady and aunt; she will be missed. God Bless
