Aleta Cecile Branch Lawyer, of
Horseshoe Bay, Texas, passed away on June 12, 2023 surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Aleta was born in
Opelika, Alabama, to Cecil Boyd and Ouida Branch. She grew up in a loving family with three brothers. After the family moved from Alabama to west Texas, Aleta graduated from Odessa High School.
At 23, Aleta had one daughter, Gwen, who changed her life forever. Aleta loved being her mother and took pride in everything she did.
In Odessa, she met her husband of 36 years, Herman Lawyer. The two and her daughter, Gwen, made a home in
Avery, Texas, where she became an avid fisherman and enjoyed life on the farm.
In 1978 the family moved to Longview and ultimately settled on the lake in Horseshoe Bay in 1991, where she resided upon her passing.
Aleta has enjoyed a lifetime of volunteer work helping countless people in her community. In Longview, she volunteered with Good Shepherd Hospital for 15 years and founded LUV- Longview United Volunteers, an organization that assists abused children to get the help and services they need. In Marble Falls, she was the only female who served on the board for the design and building of the new First Baptist Church of Marble Falls. She also spent her Wednesdays for many years leading gospel sing-a-longs at local assisted living facilities to the delight of all involved.
Aleta loved her family, and thanks to Gwen graduating from Texas A&M University, she loved all things, Aggie Maroon! Her greatest joy was watching her granddaughter, Tori, grow up. They were inseparable, from driving her to piano lessons and girl scouts as a child to attending concerts, going on trips, and taking cruises. Undoubtedly, Aleta was a loving woman, wife, mother, and devoted friend.
Aleta also enjoyed the little things like her kid's dogs, traveling, cooking, fashion, and all things beautiful.
Finally, her great faith in the Lord helped her through the passing of her mother and this long fight against cancer. Her greatest wish would be for all those reading this to find the same comfort and strength in Christ.
Aleta is predeceased by her mother and father, her brother Johnny Branch, and Herman Lawyer. She is survived by Gwen Williams, husband James, Victoria (Tori) Quemada, and husband Jeffery, all of San Antonio. She is also survived by her brother Mickey Branch, wife Vickie of Kerville, and her youngest brother Kenny Branch and wife Roberta of
Cedar Park, Tx. She is also survived by her beloved nephews Randy Branch of Arlington, Corey Branch of Grand Prairie, and Ken Branch of
Cedar Park, Tx.
We invite you to donate to The Helping Center in
