Lawrence Burton

1934 - 2025

Lawrence Dowe Burton, 91, affectionately known as "Poppy" will be greatly missed by his loving wife Pat of 65 years, his 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence is survived by his daughters Lesli (Chuck) and Libbi (Jeff). His son, Barry, passed in 2023. His grandchildren include Blyss (Ben), Blair (Carson), Mackinsey (Wright), Kirby (David), Kelsey (Greyson), Sterling (Darian), Keaton, Brynn (Shya), and Canyon. His great-grandchildren include Brixley, Bennett, Brigham, and Hal.

Lawrence was born November 21, 1934, in Spicewood and passed away December 4, 2025. He attended the one-room school in Spicewood with his sister, Betty Jean, until grade 8 and then graduated from Marble Falls High School at age 16. He studied Accounting at Texas State University and served in the Army Reserves. He returned to Spicewood to work with his dad, Loranza Dowe Burton, as a master carpenter. His mom, Lorena Naumann Burton had many brothers and sisters, and Lawrence often played with them in Spicewood. Halmude Naumann and Doris Faye Phillips were a few of his special cousins. The Naumann and Burton families settled in Spicewood in the late 1800's.

As a master home builder, he was well recognized and known throughout the Hill Country. His specialty was custom homes and the restoration of historical buildings.

Lawrence loved making clocks. He had many clocks ticking away in the house. He shared his love of clocks with all his friends and family by handcrafting one made just for them.

Lawrence and Pat together invested in the local community through their real estate and many successful businesses.

There are so many favorite stories. An often recounted Circle B story was when customers asked for a discount and his reply was to get their ass outta there to ask for a discount at H-E-B. There was also Lawrence's pink Cadillac that caught Pat's eye, so she agreed to go on a date with him.
