Mimi Blackmon Obituary

Mimi MacLarty Blackmon was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all she came in contact with. Mimi was sadly taken away from us at the age of 90. Mimi was born November 16, 1934 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the oldest of two children from parents Jay & Olive MacLarty.

Mimi grew up on Lake Okoboji in Spirit Lake, Iowa with her mother, father and little brother Jay MacLarty. Later, her family moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa where Mimi graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1952.

Mimi then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she attended and graduated from the Electronics Institute of Nebraska. Mimi was then hired by the Denver International Airport - Air Traffic Control Division. While Control Tower construction delayed her start, she traveled with a friend to Wichita, Kansas, where she met Jim Blackmon who was completing his studies at Wichita University. Soon after, Mimi & Jim were married.

From there they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Jim worked in the Oil Business and they started a family by having two children, twins, Stephanie & Stephen Blackmon.

The next move was a short stay in Dallas, Texas and then on to Midland, Texas where Mimi was a stay at home mom, busily raising their two children. Mimi was also active as a regular volunteer in nursing care and also became very active in local, state and national politics.

For many years, Mimi maintained the Blackmon's two homes, one in Midland and one on Lake LBJ. In 1989 they sold their Midland home and their part-time home on Lake LBJ and built a permanent home at the lake on the Cape at Horseshoe Bay, Texas where she lived with Jim until her recent passing.

Mimi was preceded in death by both her parents and her brother. She is survived by her loving husband Jim, who together recently celebrated 72 years of marriage, her son Stephen Blackmon of Houston, Texas, daughter Stephanie Rogers & Alvin of Midland, Texas, grandchildren Jennifer Jill (JJ), Todd & wife Janai Rogers of Midland, Texas, Scott & wife Cheyenne Rogers of Midland, Texas, grandson Ross Blackmon & wife Chelsea of Dallas, Texas, great grandchildren Henley, Brodie & Owen of Midland, Texas and Cambree & Brooks Blackmon of Dallas, Texas.

A Reception will be held at The Church at Horseshoe Bay on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Church Service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mimi's memory may be made to Spectrum of Solutions, 2701 N. A Street, Midland, TX 79707, www.spectrumofsolutions.org.
