Ollene Petterson Obituary

Ollene Petterson, a beacon of joy and laughter, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the age of 89 in Marble Falls, Texas. Born on August 18, 1936, in Elgin, Texas, Ollene's life was a tapestry of love, humor, and service, woven with the threads of family, friendship, and community.

Ollene, a graduate of Elgin High School in 1954, was known for her vivacious spirit and quick wit, which earned her the titles of Class Favorite and Wittiest during her sophomore year. She was an active member of the Spanish Club, Photography Club, and played in the Concert Band, where her love for music and culture shone brightly. She was also a proud member of the Elgin Wildcats cheerleading squad, where her outgoing spirit and bubby personality shone through. After high school, Ollene continued her education at business school in Austin, where she met Charles Petterson, her beloved husband of 70 years. Their enduring love story began shortly after Charles returned from serving in the Navy during the Korean War.

Ollene's professional life was marked by her pioneering spirit, as she became the first female bailiff in Travis County Criminal Courts. She was admired for running her courtroom with a blend of firmness and fairness, ensuring that justice was served with dignity and respect. Her dedication to her role was only matched by her devotion to her family, as a loving wife for 70 years and a devoted mother for over 67 years to her children, Rebecca Worden (Steve) and Jeff Petterson (Pam), brother Neal Pfeiffer, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews survive Ollene. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Pfeiffer and Ella (Marth) Pfeiffer, who instilled in her the values of kindness and generosity that she carried throughout her life.

An athletic soul, Ollene and Charles shared a passion for biathlons and triathlons, a testament to their teamwork and zest for life. Her love for gardening allowed her to nurture beauty in the world, just as she nurtured the relationships around her. A voracious reader, Ollene's thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and her sharp sense of humor was a source of delight for all who knew her. Renowned for her social nature, she was the life of any gathering, often leaving a trail of laughter in her wake. Ollene's love for an adult beverage was matched only by her love for making others smile.

Described by those who knew her as loving, friendly, and interesting, Ollene's legacy is one of joy and connection. She believed in the power of laughter as a universal language, often quoting the famous words of Audrey Hepburn: "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." Ollene's garden of life was full of blossoms of love, friendship, and hope that will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she touched.

Ollene Petterson's life was a celebration of the human spirit, and her memory will be cherished as a treasure in the hearts of her family and the many lives she brightened. Her laughter, wisdom, and love remain as guiding lights, reminding us all to embrace life with open arms and a ready smile.
