Robert Brown Obituary

Robert Frazier Brown was born June 27th, 1937 in Lamesa, Texas to Dorothy Alma Hyde and Robert Barron Brown. He was their beloved only child. He died April 19th, 2023 in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Bob grew up on the family farms in Dawson County attending rural schools at Five Mile, Sparenburg and Liberty before moving to the Lamesa school system. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1955 and enrolled at Texas Tech where he become a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Saddle Tramps. He graduated from Tech in 1959 but never outgrew his devotion to the Red Raiders. Bob learned to fly during his college days and enjoyed many years as a private pilot. Bob served in the U.S. Army following graduation and was a member of the National Guard.

January 20th, 1962, Bob married Elena Esmond. The couple had two children, Marcy and Robert Jeffrey Brown. Bob was a proud and loving father who was always involved in the lives of his children and their families.

Bob farmed in the Lamesa area as a young man. In 1967 he purchased Nix Motor Company, renaming it Bob Brown Motors. He added Buick, Pontiac and GMC to go along with the Oldsmobile and Cadillac lines and became very active in the Texas Automobile Dealers' Association. Bob served on many committees and eventually was State President of TADA. He also owned Snyder Motor Company for several years.

In 1987, Bob purchased controlling interest in the First National Bank of Lamesa and began a new career as President of the institution. He is an alumnus of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado in Boulder, graduating in 1992 and serving as a class officer.

Bob was always active in the in the community of Lamesa, serving as President of Lamesa Independent School District for several years. He also served as President of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce, The Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Rodeo Association and the Lamesa Airport Board. He was Chairman of the Golden Tornado Jubilee.

Bob was a devout Christian. His involvement with the First Baptist Church included teaching Sunday School and serving as an active deacon for more than fifty years. He was also very active with First Baptist Food Bank.

Bob's love for Texas Tech University was legendary. He was an avid fan of every sport and an active member of the Red Raider Club, serving as National President. One of Bob's favorite things was attending Tech Bowl games with his extended family. He also served on the Texas Tech Athletic Council and was a car coach. His involvement with the Tech Ex-Students' Association involved serving on the National Board of Directors. He was named a distinguished alumnus. The Family has several endowed scholarships at Texas Tech.

Bob was also an avid golfer. He enjoyed golfing with his Lamesa buddies and with friends from all walks of life. He was affectionately called "Birdie Bob" for his ability to birdie the final hole.

In 1977, the Brown family purchased a vacation home in Horseshoe Bay where Bob and Elena relocated full time in 2019 to be closer to family.

Bob knew no stranger, saw the good in everyone and believed in second chances for all people and animals.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Conley and Geneva Esmond; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is survived by his wife Elena of Horseshoe Bay, his daughter Marcy Jackson (Jeff) of Horseshoe Bay, son Jeff Brown (Leighan) of Boerne, grandchildren Taylor Hair of San Antonio, Travis Toman of Lubbock, Claire, Audrey, Aaron and Ian Brown of Boerne, Haley Bufkin (Trey) of Lubbock, Heath Jackson (Sarah) of Horseshoe Bay and great-grandchildren Hattie and Brex Bufkin of Lubbock.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21st from 5pm to 7 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 N US Highway 281, Marble Falls, Tx 78654

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Lamesa, Texas at a later date. Burial will be in Lamesa Memorial Park
