Ferris C. Leonard

1929 - 2020

Ferris Clyde Leonard of Hillsdale went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Drew's Country Living.
He was born June 18, 1929, in Jackson, the youngest son of Frank and Pearl (Blackburn) Leonard. He graduated from Leslie High School in 1947, then attended Huntington College, where he met his "Sweetie," Julia.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Julia (Dury) Leonard; four children, Ann (Danny) Clark of Hillsdale, Joy (Dr. Joseph) Moravec of Urbandale, Iowa, Kevin (Diane) Leonard of Reading and Lisa (Daniel) Gonshorowski of Osseo; adaughter-in-law, Susan Leonard of Parma; 11 grandchildren, Tricia, Casey, Skye, Quinn, Clay, Ivy, Dennis, Jorie, Kaylee, Jonathan and Drew; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Sue Leonard of Alma, Vivian Leonard of Leslie, Sue Wismar of Hillsdale and Becky (Dr. Nick) Walz of Bryan, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Joel and Doral; two grandsons, Kent and Trevor; his parents; two brothers, Herman and Gordon; and a sister, Joanne.
Ferris was an active member of Osseo Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed ice fishing. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing in his younger years. Ferris was an avid Michigan State fan and enjoyed watching the Detroit sports teams, especially the Tigers. He retired from Hillsdale Community Schools as a supervisor of the maintenance and transportation departments after 26 years of service.
Private services will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when restrictions are lifted. He will be laid to rest at Cambria II Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Osseo Baptist Church, Reading Emergency Unit, Hospice of Hillsdale County or to the Community Foundation for the Ferris C.
