Richard Charles Gardiner, of Jonesville, Mich., passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Mac McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale, Mich.
He was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Amsterdam, NY, the son of John and Mildred (MacFee) Gardiner.
He is survived by his wife, Candace C. Gardiner of Jonesville, Mich., whom he married on Dec. 27, 1975; one son, John E. Gardiner of Union City, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Amber Purdy and Whisper Hamm; one grandson, MacKensie Gardiner; one great-granddaughter, Winterland Sky; four sisters, Vicki Moore, Joyce Makara and Caroline Joslyn, all of NY and Charlotte Forest of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal father, Ralph Downs Sr.; mother, Mildred Gardiner; step-father, John Gardiner; two brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Gardiner served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Jonesville American Legion Post # 195. He was a Locksmith for many years and he was a member of the National Locksmith Association. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in North Adams.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Richard Charles Gardiner will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams (141 E. Main Street, North Adams, MI 49262) on Saturday, June 16 beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eric Sass officiating. Interment, with military honors, will take place in the Mosherville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation, at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale, on Friday, from
3-6 p.m. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the family, or to the First Baptist Church in North Adams, or to the Jonesville American Legion Post # 195.
