Thomas Swert Obituary
Tom attended West Geauga Schools in Chesterland, Ohio and Toledo University. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1975-1976. Tom was employed as a surveyor for Walsh Construction. He formerly worked as a brakeman and conductor for Penn Central Railroad for 15 years. Tom enjoyed being outdoors, canoeing, camping and fishing with his family. He was also a gun enthusiast and motorcycle rider. Tom dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Daisy.
In addition to his parents, Corky (Nancy) Swert of Hillsdale, Tom is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Jason) Clark of Hobart, Indiana and Crystal Belfi of Garland, Texas; three sons, Thomas Swert Jr. of Toledo, Steven (Nicole) Swert of Toledo and Anthony (Tiffany) Swert of Hobart; eleven grandchildren and two sisters, Lori (Richard) Amato of Mentor, Ohio and Joy (Alex) Mismas of Santa Monica, California.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Shelly and brother, Jeff.
Funeral services for Thomas Swert will be at 2 p.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Rick Braman officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

TO THE FAMILY OF THOMAS JAMES SWERT
Dear Corky and Nancy,
The death of Thomas was received with shock and much sadness. Please accept my personal and sincere condolences.
In the trying days ahead we should never forget that our 'hopes' for a better tomorrow lies not only in our dreams but also in our imagination and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality. 'Hope' is like the sun, which, as we journey toward, cast the shadow of our burdens behind it. So, let your 'hopes', not your hurts, shape your future and always hold to the belief, and the conviction that there is a better life, and a better world awaits us beyond the horizon.
With that in mind let the wings of 'hope' carry you soaring high above the driving winds of life and always keep in mind that 'hope' is faith holding out its hand in the dark.
May the hope found in Gods' word out weigh the grief the family feels? Again, please know that I am deeply sadden by Thomas's departure but blessed with the fact of knowing Heaven has just gained another angel.
Gone from our eyes, but not forgotten in our hearts.

Jesus taught us to pray at Matthew 6:9 & 10 (The Model Prayer) let your will take place as in heaven also on earth. Soon when this prayer becomes a reality, we will never have to suffer such a loss again. May your heart be comforted with this promise and may God grant you inner peace to help you cope with your loss.
