Bernice Hansen Obituary

Bernice Stevenson Hawkes Hansen
1923 - 2018
Bernice Geraldine Hawkes Stevenson Hansen
"GGB"
1923-2018
HARRISVILLE - Our sweet mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep at home at the age of 95.
Born June 5, 1923, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Joseph W. Hawkes and Amy L. Johnson Hawkes, the baby of her siblings, Helen, Irving and James. Bernice married her eternal sweetheart, Don Winward Stevenson, on Aug. 30, 1945, in the Logan LDS Temple. Bernice was a devoted Army wife happily following Don around the globe to his various posts in Texas; Oklahoma; Oberammergau, Germany; Arkansas and finally settling in Logan, Utah. Don preceded her in death June 2, 1988. She called Logan home for 55 years, staying active in Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving 20 years as a "Pink Lady" at Logan Regional Hospital, weekly temple visits, an organ group and of course her treasured Book Club. Bernice married Burrell Hansen on Aug. 24, 1991. He preceded her in death July 11, 2005. After spending most of her life in Logan, Bernice moved to Harrisville, Utah, with her grandson. Of course she made friends quickly and remained active in the activities she loved to do, just as she had in Logan. She was a dedicated visitor to the Ogden LDS Temple and loved her new ward, the Harrisville 2nd Ward. Bernice was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of church callings. She was blessed with two special friends, Kay Boyce and Sharon Cloud, who didn't hesitate to help anytime Bernice or our family needed. They were angels to Bernice, and the family is truly grateful to them for their love and service. Of course anyone who knew Bernice couldn't think of her without thinking of her famous chocolates, caramels and rolls! She loved making them and handing them out. After one taste, you were hooked! She loved shopping and always found the best deals! Her favorites being the DI, Dollar Tree, and no shopping trip was ever complete without stopping at Kohl's. Her class and style were evident in not only everything she wore, but in how she loved and served others with her kind and generous spirit. This past June she was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with a party in the park! She loved this day! Family and friends traveled from near and far to celebrate and visit this special lady. She was happy, active and sharp as a wit, even driving (to her family's dismay) until shortly before her passing. Bernice is survived by her four children, Amy (Lanny) Crabb, Farr West, UT, Jeff Stevenson, Irene (Keith) Welch, Franklin, ID, and Cheryl Murphy, Las Vegas, NV; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews who looked to Bernice as a second mom. She is also survived by Burrell's children, whom all loved her. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Don and second husband Burrell, all three siblings and a great-grandson, Corben McGuire. The family would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to her grandson, Sam, who opened his home to her and made her last two years memorable and fun for her and for all the love and generosity he showed her. As a special tribute, if you are able, please wear a "splash" of blue.
Funeral services will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah, on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at 11 a.m. There will be a viewing Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment at Logan Cemetery. www.allenmortuaries.com.

Bernice was my Visiting Teacher, along with Beverly Wheeler, for 2 years. She is the sweetest and kindest person I have known. I enjoyed her home made candy too. Beverly and I were invited to celebrate her 90th Birthday here in Logan. I truly love Bernice.

Dearest Bernice,
how my heart hurts knowing you are no longer among us! All I can do is find comfort in the many sweet and fun memories we built together along with Burrell and Scott and the children. From the beautiful day you and Burrel got married to the many get togethers to celebrate holidays, birthdays and vacations. We all remember with fondness the many times you came to visit us in Tennessee, Branson, Missouri, Park City and Arizona.
What joy you brought to us all and it was so good to see the joy you brought to Burrell with your love, gentleness, kindness, understanding and compassion. A great companion to him, thoughtful mother to Scott, awesome mother in-law to me, as well as good friend and wonderful grandma to our children. You were Grandma Bernice and they loved you. "We will never forget the many wonderful treats you made for everyone. The rolls, the chocolates, the divine caramels, which Jonathan was particularly fond of and called "blookos" since he was a tiny tot.
We all loved you dearly. It is no wonder that though far away, I called you often to see how you were doing and share in our lives. I missed you and I will continue to miss you, until we see each other again.
Have fun with the people you love up there. I know Earth lost and angel and Heaven gained one.
My heart goes out to all your family, to whom I offer our heartfelt condolences. I can only imagine the pain they all feel at your passing.
Good bye for now, our sweet Bernice. I know you will watch over all of us, and we will keep you always in our hearts. Forever and with love,
Scott and Antonella, Erica, Daniel and Jonathan Hansen
