Clair Lundberg Obituary

Clair Howell Lundberg, 86, died Oct. 28, 2008, of causes incident to age. He was born June 26, 1922, in Woodruff, Idaho, to Benjamin and Ruby Howell Lundberg. Clair graduated from Malad High School. He then attended Utah State University, majoring in business administration. He received a call to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hawaiian Islands Japanese Mission and was scheduled to depart on Nov. 26 and arrive on Dec. 3, 1941. However, for reasons unknown at the time, his departure was delayed. After the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the reason became evident. A new call was issued and he served an honorable mission in the North Central States. After his mission he was called to serve in the Army Air Corp and spent time in Italy and North Africa. Four days after returning home he met Melba Hales at a VJ Day Celebration. They were married on Sept. 11, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple by President Joseph Fielding Smith. His first occupation was in the automobile sales business at Lundberg Motor. He later accepted a position as vice president and General Manager of Miller Brothers Co, Inc. where he worked for 21 years.
He served diligently in many LDS Church callings, including Bishop, High Council, Stake President, Temple Worker and Patriarch.
Clair was very active in civic and community affairs, serving three terms on the Hyrum City Council. Clair enjoyed singing and sang together with Melba as well as in a barbershop quartet. He also loved going to his summer home in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.
Clair is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Melba; brother, Leon; and sisters, Pearl Monson, Ione Hess and Velda Wood. He is survived by his five sons, Brent (Tiffany) of Sandy, Brian (Marilyn) of Logan, Jay (Linda) of Glendale, Ariz, Gary (Lori) of Logan, and Daryl (Melinda) of River Heights; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at noon on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the Hyrum 5th/10th Ward chapel, 125 N. 400 West. Friends and family may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery.

Your dad was always so nice to me. He always remembered me when I came to the Logan Temple and treated me with extra kindness. I have great memories of him when my friends and I would drive past his house to "see" the twins. He would just wave and smile, I am sure he was used to it.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Lundberg as I would call him growing up in Hyrum. Many is the time that myself, Daryl and many other friends would spend time over to their house.
I only knew of love and kindness that I would feel from the time I entered until I left the house. He will be truely missed.
And to my good friend Daryl, my heart goes out to you my friend, I know it's been quite a long time since we have seen each other but never are we so close with the bond of our friendship. I pray the Lord watch and bless you at this time.
Your friend always,
Big T

Clair has been a very positive influence in the lives of the Legrand Miller family. He was always so kind and considerate of Dean and a good friend of Legrand. I remember teaching the twins in Primary. May the Lord be with you at this difficult time.
