Douglas Stark Obituary

Douglas Stark
1955 - 2014
Smithfield - Douglas Jay Stark passed away on July 10, 2014 at the age of 59. He was born in Ogden, Utah, and grew up in Smithfield, Utah. He graduated from Sky View High School. He attended college for a year and then joined the Army in 1974. He loved his time in the service and was proud to have supported his country. He married Susan Moore in 1982 and later divorced. He enjoyed his position with Bear River Association of Government for 30 years as their weatherization programmer. Being able to help those in need by way of the programs BRAG offered gave him joy and helping others was a very large part of who Doug was. He was a giving and courageous man who faced obstacles head on; he was and still is a mentor to many.
Doug spent the last year of his life fighting valiantly against a rare form of leukemia, but through it all never lost his zest for life. He has amazing family and friends that were the core of his world. Doug's passions in life were his children, grandchildren, and of course, his Hudson's. He had a profound knowledge of aircraft and world war history and loved to sharpen that knowledge with trivia. He had a long time hobby of building model airplanes and entered many into model contests, in which most cases were awarded. He loved collecting things such as die cast cars, model air-craft, vintage cameras and books of world war and automobiles. His 1942 Hudson was a source of pride and joy for him. He was a member of his favorite Hudson Essex Terraplane club for many years, which enabled him to travel all over the west with classic cars and great friends. He entered his 1949 Hudson into several car shows. Working on classic cars was a hobby he reveled in and that he lovingly passed down not only to his children but his grandchildren as well.
If a man's worth is measured in love then Doug was indeed a very rich man, because he had the love of many and will always be remembered in and held in the hearts of so many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, life and of course classic cars.
He is survived by his children: Shawn (Lani) Stark, Scott Stark, step children Brad Anhder, and Emily (Jeffrey) Smith. Brothers, Jeffrey Stark, Les (Nicole) Stark, Curtis Stark, and Jay Chris (Vylinda) Stark. Sisters Debra (Wynn) Whitehead, and Rhonda (Ray) Tarver, step mother Joyce Stark, and his beloved 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jay Albert Stark, and Marilyn Jean Hart, and sister Janice Stark. We also wish to extend a deep heartfelt thank you to Doug's lifelong friend Jane Gyllenskog; she has been an astoundingly supportive friend in Doug's life as well as a rock for his family in Doug's final weeks.
Family and friends will be celebrating his life forever, a viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 6-8 p.m., at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street in Logan. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11 a.m., also at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.
