Ernest Mylroie Obituary

Ernest LaMoin Mylroie, age 89, passed away at his home in Gustine, Texas on Friday,

November 22nd. Born on February 23, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, Ernest's life was one of

dedication, resilience, and quiet strength.

He was the beloved eldest son of Alice Arlene Lester and George Ernest Mylroie, both of whom

preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Leah Lowe and Shirley

Rawlings. Ernest is survived by his siblings, Victor of Tucson, Arizona; Leon of Fairview, Utah;

Darlene Henrie of Malta, Idaho; and Marlene Robinson of Burley, Idaho. He leaves behind his

wife, Elizabeth, to whom he has been married for nearly 52 years.

Ernest was a proud father to six children: Janet, Kenneth, Sandra, Corinna, Daniel, and

Matthew. His legacy lives on through his 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and three

great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

A proud veteran, Ernest served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his

service, he spent the rest of his working days in a number of roles that embodied the

tremendous work ethic and reliability that defined his character, with the majority of that time

spent caring for a variety of animals or working in a steel mill. Even into his late-80s, Ernest

continued working with enduring strength and diligence, both for his employer and in care of

his small family farm.

Ernest loved the outdoors, finding peace and joy in camping, dutch oven cooking, hunting, and

fishing. He also enjoyed music and history. His passions extended to his faith as a member of

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served his church and community

for many years, including leading congregations and serving in youth organizations.

Known as the strong, silent type, he was reserved yet witty with a subtle humor that brought

joy to those around him.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 26th in

Union cemetery in Gustine, Texas, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and

legacy. Virtual attendance can be done through Zoom, Meeting ID: 7954915090, Passcode: Z8qysb

Ernest's life was a testament to humility, sacrifice, hard work, and a quiet but powerful love for

his family and faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of those that he served and shaped.

Ernie was the best in the Whse at Nucor Steel Utah. He tolerated more crap than he deserved. He set traps to test which employees weren´t pulling their weight and he had lists of people he was going to tell off on his last day. When his last day came they gave him a gun. His heart softened, and he left leaving good feelings behind. His retirement plan was to pack up his things and bungee cord his snow shovel to his truck grill. Then drive south till someone says hey what´s that on the front of your truck?
I would presume he lived a good life his last days. I´ve thought about him many times since he left Utah. His many stories have kept me laughing over the years.
One morning he told me that a girl he dated in high school had passed and he had noticed her picture in the obituary. He told me he was really glad he had not married her. I asked why are you happy? He replied, because I´d be a widower today.
Ernie, You´re a good man. Thanks for being you.
