James B. "Jim" Gilbert

1945 - 2013

James "Jim" Barlow Gilbert, 68, passed away in the presence of his wife and children on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello Idaho, following a courageous battle with an infection and cardiac arrest. Jim is the first of six children (Jim, Leslie, Dan, Skyler, Nicolen and Lisa). He was born Jan. 22, 1945, to Frank Barlow Gilbert and Carol Bingham Gilbert, in Logan, Utah. He married Linda Johnson on July 30, 1966. They were married 40 years before she passed away in June 2007. He then married Kris Mauchley in June 2008.
He was a well-known master diesel mechanic and worked for GMC, Dodge, and John Deere, to name a few. He also worked on the Alaska pipeline. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Southern States Mission. He had a passion for singing, flying planes, farming, showing his trains off, and loved dropping candy from the plane at different events.
Jim is survived by his wife Kris and their 10 children and two foster children: Tiffany Lynn (Ted) Weeks (Kamiah, Idaho); Debra G. Eiynck (Round Hill, Va.); Kaylyn (Boyd) Bradshaw (Draper, Utah); Patrick James (Tamara O.) Gilbert (Fairview, Idaho); Curtis David (Jennifer) Gilbert (Fairview); Derk Barlow (Sarah) Gilbert (Richmond, Utah); and Andrea Gilbert (West Jordan, Utah); and step-children Michelle (Scot) Kurns (Mt. Angel, Ore.); David (Angela) Stark (Kuna, Idaho); Jenny (Josh) Hiatt (Talent, Ore.); and foster children Victoria Maestas and Ryan Billy. Jim and Kris currently have 32 grandchildren. Jim is survived by his father, Barlow (Cherill) Gilbert; Sister-in-law Tamara S. Gilbert; sister, Leslie (Bill) Fisher; brother, Skyler (Kim) Gilbert; and sister, Lisa (Dave) Frame. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Bingham, his sister Nicolen, his first wife Linda Johnson, his brother Daniel Bingham Gilbert, and grandson Kage Derk Gilbert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in the Fairview 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 165 W. 4800 South in Preston. A viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Webb Funeral Home on 1005 S. 800 East, Preston and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
