Larry R. Dursteler

1937 - 2025

Larry Dursteler passed away November 30, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born June 7, 1937 in Preston, Idaho, the first child of Joel Rudolph Dursteler and Conna Rae Elwell. Larry grew up in Franklin County, Idaho and graduated from Preston High School in 1955. He later earned a BS in Accounting from Utah State University, where he affiliated with and was president of Sigma Nu, and a Masters in Accounting from Michigan State University.

By his own admission, the best choice he ever made was marrying Tamra Follett in the Logan, Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 21, 1962. They were married just weeks shy of 63 years.

From a very young age, Larry learned to work hard in the hay and sugar beet fields of southern Idaho, which he parlayed into two successful careers. He was a 22-year veteran of the United States Air Force: he enlisted as an 18 year old, then rejoined as an officer in 1964. His service took him around the world, including a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1982. He then began a second career with Intermountain Health Care, eventually becoming administrator of Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, and Regional Vice President over Urban South. He retired from IHC in 1998 after experiencing a debilitating stroke that overshadowed the remainder of his life.

Larry was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints, who served faithfully throughout his life, including as president of the Misawa, Japan Servicemen's Branch from 1973 to 1976. He especially enjoyed his service as Young Men's president in Bellevue, Nebraska, where he had a great influence on many young men. In 2001 he and Tamra served as missionaries in the Oakland Temple Visitors Center, which was a great blessing in both of their lives.

Beyond his many accomplishments, Larry was simply a good man. He had an incredible work ethic, was highly intelligent, and possessed an amazing memory. He was utterly reliable, a wise counselor, and generous with his resources. At every stage of his life he left a mark for good on many individuals, communities, and organizations. Most of all he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply, and was in turn adored and admired by them.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Tamra; his children Eric (Whitney), Tracy Hawkins (Jeff), Blake (Alison), Tricia, and Karen; 13 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; and 1 brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Allen Mortuary, 420 E 1800 N, North Logan, Utah. Burial will be in the Hyde Park City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Central Utah Veterans Home, 1551 N Main St, Payson, UT 84651.
