Lee Kirk Obituary

Lee K. Kirk passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, in Logan, Utah, at Legacy House assisted living. He has been under the care of Alpine Hospice and the family would like to extend a special thanks to them and Jeremy, his hospice nurse. Also a big thank you to Legacy House staff for their wonderful and attentive care they provided for Lee.
The oldest of three children, Lee was born Dec. 2, 1927, to Odeal and Hazel Kirk in Lindon, Utah. He grew up in Magna, Utah, where he was active in high school sports and government. After graduating from high school, Lee joined the U.S. Navy with his best friend Paul Hansen and was stationed in Panama.
Lee met his lifelong sweetheart LaRue Monson, in the first grade and together they became best friends and were married in the Logan LDS Temple in 1948. After graduating from Utah State University, Lee and LaRue moved to Ames, Iowa, where Lee completed his master's degree and worked on his doctorate at Iowa State University.
After returning to Utah, Lee was employed and worked in sales and marketing for most of his professional career. Lee and LaRue loved the outdoors and instilled that love to their children Kevin Lee Kirk, Lisa Kirk Colburn, Laurie Kirk Bridges and Kyle Lynn Kirk (deceased). For nearly 30 years, Lee and LaRue devoted their lives to caring for their youngest child Kyle who was left a quadriplegic from a car accident when he was 21 years old. This happened when they lived in Boise, Idaho. They had many neighbors and friends who helped them tremendously through the years.
Lee is preceded in death by his sweetheart, LaRue; son, Kyle; and sister, LaRae Hawkins. He is survived by his sister, Elna Dawn Chugg, and three children previously mentioned. Lee never had a birth brother but always knew he had a brother in Jay Albert Monson (LaRue's brother) of Logan, Utah. Jay was a dear brother to Lee to the very end of Lee's life and children Kevin, Lisa, and Laurie are grateful for his love and devotion to Lee. Lee is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service this spring for Lee, LaRue and Kyle at the Logan City Cemetery.

Kevin, Lisa and Laurie, I just heard about the passing of your beloved father. I am sorry for your loss. It has been a rough 6 months for your family. I am thankful for the years I had getting to know your parents better as I came to their home to cut Kyles hair. I was always impressed with the love and care they had for one another. No burden was ever too tough to bare. You have a wonderful strong family and I am glad Lee, LaRue and Kyle can all be together now without the physical limitations. I hope I can come to the memorial service this spring. Love , Marcie White

I just read about the passing of my cousin, Lee Kirk, and would like to express my sincere sympathy to his family. Our mothers were sisters and our fathers were brothers, so I felt very close to this family. When I was a little girl living in Magna, Lee liked to tease me (he was 12 years older than me) and I loved it. I have pictures of family reunions where I am standing in front of him and he is taking care of me. I loved him and have thought so much about him in the past years wondering where he was and how he was doing. I hope to some day see him again. I express my love to all of his family and pray for your peace and comfort.

Kevin, Lisa, Laurie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Ann Gayheart told me about your father's passing. I know your father will be missed here, and is warmly embraced on the other side by many loved ones -- my parents included.
