Marie Hadfield Obituary

Marie Nielsen Hadfield, 99, of River Heights, Utah, passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 21, 2025, of natural causes. She was born the fourth child of Wilford W Nielsen and Leona Florabell Christensen in Elwood, Utah, on January 10, 1926. She attended Elwood Elementary School and Bear River and Box Elder High Schools.

Marie learned to work hard by helping her parents on their farm, hoeing, thinning and topping sugar beets, for example. Her favorite job was mowing hay with a horse drawn mower. She often rode the family horse to deliver papers on their paper route. She enjoyed many activities such as dancing and playing the piano. She was a talented fast pitch softball pitcher from a young age.

Marie had excellent secretarial skills, especially in short hand, and worked as a secretary in the Agricultural Adjustment Agency offices in Logan and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1951, after her sweetheart, Max Hadfield, had served in the US Air Corps in World War II, and then served a mission in Texas, Marie and Max were married in the Logan Temple. Marie and Max resided in Logan and River Heights, Utah, all but 6 months of their 74 years of marriage, with 56 of those years being in River Heights.

Marie was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She held many positions in the Church over the years, including Gleaner President, Cub Scout Den Mother, Young Women Advisor and President, and Relief Society Counselor and President. She and Max served a mission for the Church in the Canada Vancouver Mission, spending their time in Prince George, British Columbia. They also served for a time in the Logan, Utah Temple.

Marie and Max were truly a team. They started and operated Trend Interiors, a successful window covering store in Logan, in 1956, which is still in business today. However, the most important work to them was caring for their family. Marie was an excellent homemaker, mother, and wife. She loved to serve her husband and family. She often said, "Service is love in overalls."

Marie is survived by her husband, Max, who is 101 years old. They are the parents of 7 children: Randy (Kathryn); Brent (Sheri); Kelly, deceased (Lucille); Jan Reese (Tracy); Mark (Liz); Linda Garrett (Doug); and Kent. They currently have 27 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Marie has one surviving sister, Rea Rader.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday, November 1, 2025, 11 am at the River Heights Utah Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 600 E 800 S in River Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services that day from 9:30-10:30 am at the same location. Internment will be in the Providence City Cemetery, located in River Heights, Utah.

The Hadfield family thanks all those involved in caring for Marie over the last several months. It is deeply appreciated.
