Sarah Ann Flick, age 56, of Ada, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 20, 2019, from complications related to cancer.
Sarah began her sassy life on April 1, 1963 in Chicago, IL. She was the third of four children born to Ann and Gus Flick. A natural athlete, she excelled on many sports teams throughout her childhood, including being the first female baseball player on Spring Lake Park Little League. Always a mischievous child known for her ready smile, Sarah was fond of playing with and pranking family and friends from the neighborhood and schools.
Those of us who are lucky enough to have known her, will forever cherish her stories and spirit. She had a larger than life personality and will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her wife Heidi; mother, Ann; sisters, Geralyn (Tom) and Lauri (Pat); brother, Gus (Jen); and nieces and nephews, Claire, Andy, Madeline, Augie and Ben, and Isabel, Lyla and Evan.
She is preceded in death by her father Gus.
Sarah spent the bulk of her career as a Deputy with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. She loved being a police officer, and the members of the communities in which she served. Sarah started her career on August 1, 1999 and she retired on February 28, 2017 after 18 years of dedicated service. During her time at the Sheriff's Office Sarah held many positions including Road Patrol Deputy, School Resource Deputy with Grand Haven High School, K9 Handler with K9 "Okar", and Community Policing Deputy for Jamestown Township just prior to her retirement. Sarah also served on the Executive Board of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy Association as the Vice President for a period of time. Throughout Sarah's career she developed strong relationships with her coworkers and made a positive impact on the citizens she had the pleasure to serve. Sarah will be remembered as a loyal, trustworthy, dedicated Deputy and friend. Her notorious infectious "Sarah Laugh" will be greatly missed.

Dear Heidi, Ann, and family. I wanted to let you know how sorry I am for the loss of your wife, daughter, sister, and aunt.

I played competitive softball with Sarah in Traverse City and found her to be one of the most competitive athletes I knew. She was tough as nails, cared deeply for her friends and family, and yes, had that memorable laugh that carried for miles (I can still hear it today.)

She brought out the best in people and I preferred to play on the same team as her, verses competing against her. As an athlete, she always elevated those around her to play better.

As a friend, she was fiercely loyal and I was grateful to be in that circle for some time until we all grew older and moved away.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

From 1987 to 1997 Sarah and I were best of friends. That was a decade of many adventures and laughs. I have so many stories to share. I've decided my favorite was when her beloved pal Goenner (Golden retriever ) was fidgety in my new home. She hired someone from Chicago to come in and clear my house. It turned out that clearer freed four spirits from my home!

Heidi and all the Flick family my deepest condolences in the passing of Sarah. She was my best of friend for many years. I have many wonderful memories of us trying to "solve the world's problems" during our conversations while hanging out and talking for hours. Sarah was very insiteful /passionate about life and her beliefs which made her special and interesting to be around. I know she will be sadly missed by the many friends she has made through her life.
Rest in peace my friend and thank you
for the years of a great friendship it will never be forgotten.

Heidi and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sarah was a teammate years ago when we played slow pitch softball. Road trips to tournaments were a blast. I'll never forget her speed!! R.I.P. Sarah.

As a Deputy with a neighboring county I knew Sarah professionally, having gone to several trainings together, and interacting on various cases together. She was a true professional that combined common sense and compassion into a style that made her a true asset to the department she worked for and community she served. As a resident, she was also my community policing officer. Sarah always had an infectious smile a GREAT sense of humor, and was a joy to be around. I will miss her.- Scott Johanson/ Allegan Co. To Sarah's family, my sincerest condolences on the loss of Sarah, your loved one. I am a staff member of Jamestown Elementary and a Jamestown resident. Whenever Sarah came to our school and I had contact with her there was always laughter and teasing! Her smile was the best with those deep dimples of hers. She truly cared about our kids and community and made sure the pathway was put in for our safety. What a gift and legacy she gave that we will always remember. I am thankful for her dedicated service as a deputy, but more for her servant heart. I pray God will give you peace, comfort and strength in your grief.

She saved my life. She was the first to respond to a domestic dispute with a gun. That weekend 2 women died in domestic disputes , there could have been 3 but for Sarah. I still have the baseball like card she gave me that day. I will never forget her. She truly was a wonderful person.
