Mr. Payne was my 7th grade teacher at Nolan Middle School. I was sad and lonely in a new school and he was so kind and so supportive - to me and all of my classmates. I remember he signed my end of year autograph book "...with deepest respect". I was so touched that he chose those words - this skinny little lonely 7th grader. I am 57 years old now and the memory of his kindness and egalitarianism stays with me. Coincidentally, later in life he taught at the same school as my husband, where he was, unsurprisingly, highly valued and respected by his colleagues. We were at a teacher's social event and I was struck by the fact that out of the thousands of students he must have met through the years, he remembered me.

RIP, Mr. Payne.

With deepest respect,

First, giving Honor to Our Father, the Giver of Life. Allison, I am so very sorry for your loss. I looked forward to the funny cards your Dad sent my aunts, Marinda and Constance, and the phone calls he would make, just to keep in touch with them over the years. They looked forward to "visiting " with him when ever they talked. Your Dad was their other brother! We will truly miss him, but we will rejoice in the knowledge that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Allison, my prayers are with you always.
I am Linda B., Rev. Cochise's sister.

I met Mr. Payne at Church of the New Covenant when I was about 14. In the five years that I've known him, he was always so kind and motivating. He always encouraged me to continue with my studies and congratulated me when I went off to college. I will miss his smile and his uplifting spirit dearly.

Mr. Dana Payne was one of the best and most memorable teachers from my school days. He always seemed to be in a great mood and you could never forget his smile or him playing Diana Ross records in class! Mr. Payne you will always be remembered fondly!

Mr. Payne was my English teacher in junior high school. I felt he was an expert at writing on the chalkboard. Learning nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, etc ...in his class was a delight.
Thank you for my lessons Mr. Payne. Rest in peace. Christian sympathy to the family.

Mr. Payne was my Sunday School teacher for many years. once I became an adult he was one of my biggest cheerleaders as I progressed thru school and my career. I will never forget how he sent me a birthday card every year since I left Michigan. I will miss him dearly. I hope I continue to make him proud.
