George Pontif Obituary
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Liturgy of the Word will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in Bayou Black Cemetery.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Hilda Blanchard Pontif; daughter, Brenda and husband, Daniel Galbraith; sons, Brian and wife, Heidi Pontif, and Steve and wife, Malissa Pontif; sisters, Vivian Cancienne and Alice Guidry; and five grandchildren, James and Ben Galbraith, Grace and Noah Pontif, and Ragen Pontif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Pontif and Julette Bourg Pontif; son, Dennis Pontif; sisters, Hazel Chartier and Agnes Vice; and brothers, Ned, Robert and John Pontif.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and was employed by Exxon USA for 38 years, retiring in 1991 as a Field Superintendent. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and working with his orange trees.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Haydel Hospice for their care. Also to Fr. Vic and Sr. Miriam for their spiritual guidance and friendship during this time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
