Laura Marcel Obituary
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma. A celebration Mass of Laura's life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She is survived by her children, Cleveland J. (Janie) Marcel Jr., Michael J. (Sharian) Marcel Sr., Carolyn Marcel (Dale) Boudreaux, Deborah H. Marcel (Fredrick) Duplechin, Denise Marcel (Randall) Alfred, Jennine Marcel (Jeff Ray) Scafadie, Linette Marcel (Michael) Hebert, Mary Ann Marcel (Kevin) Toups, and Gina Marcel (Eddy) Hebert; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Hon. Judge Cleveland J. Marcel Sr.; son, Jerome Marcel; father, Levy LeCompte; mother, Ella Hebert LeCompte; brothers, Melvin and Willard LeCompte; sister, Lottie Duthu; and one grandson.
Laura devoted her time to bringing the Eucharist to the hospital and homes of the ill and aged. She loved to sew, travel and be with her family. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who will be sadly missed.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Homestead Assisted Living, staff of the Suites of Sugar Mill Point, and her caring sitters.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Russell Henry and the doctors at Houma Surgi-Center, Urology Clinic and Haydel Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Catholic Charities.
Samart Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements.

To the Family of Mrs. Laura Marcel,
Peter and I were saddened to hear of Mrs. Laura's death. How we wish we could have been at her memorial services, but circumstances beyond our control prevented us both from expressing our sympathy in person! Mrs. Laura was a remarkable woman. She, along with Judge Cleve Marcel, has instilled in her children , her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren the integrity and Christian values that will live on in future generations. Sincere condolences to all who loved, admired, and respected her goodness and love, Peter & Carol “BOO” Broussard.

We enjoyed having Mrs. Marcel in our Adult Health and Development Program at Nicholls State University. She was a great group member who enjoyed activities and brought many smiles to staffers' faces. It was a pleasure to know her.
