My thoughts are with all the family and friends who will deeply miss Stewart's great laugh and the ever-present twinkle in his eye!I He was such a special guy! I ran into him two years ago when I was pregnant and we talked and laughed for ages, just like old times. As he pointed to my huge belly, he smiled and said no need to ask what's new with you! At that time, he was full of optimism that the doctors would be able to help with his pain and that he'd be able to travel to Holland again.
I met Stewart back in Grade 3 in Mrs. Smiley's class, so I have years and years of great memories of him. I'm so saddened that I won't be running into him again, seeing his great smile and sharing a few laughs … I was so very lucky to have known him. Much Love to the family, Vicky

Dearest Ankie and family. I think about Stewart and all of you van de Poll's often through this time of much pain and sorrow you all are experiencing. I send my deepest felt condolences. Stewart had such a big laugh and I remember how he was such a fun loving individual right back to when I first dated Beatrice in 1976 and he was just 8. Such a loss for a wonderful family. Having known Ankie and family for so long, I will keep the faith that all of you can move through this most difficult period by your shared love and support of each other. Keep the strength! Stewart was such a very, very special Uncle to Stephanie. Take care of each other as you have always done.

I am very sorry to hear about Stewart. I was friends with him at Hollyburn Elementary - he taught me how to skateboard as he had mastered in in grade 2! I always looked out for him at the Westview liquor store and was so happy for him when he decided to move to Holland. He will be missed.

My Dearest Tante Ankie and the VdP family. My breath stopped at the news of Stewart's passing. 'Tewie, I loved that nick name for him, was such a bright light to me whenever I saw him and it was often when he was working in the garden at your home, Tante Anke. For him to have been suffering with such pain and still be strong enough to present such a bright light is a testament to his strength. Your family is beautiful and strong and very deeply connected to each other. I know, that with time, you all will be able to feel Stewart's positive presence in your lives however, it is through this very difficult and dark time that I will hold you all especially tightly in my heart. Tanke Anke, when I was just 7 years old I totally remember standing with you and mom, Punnie, on the fields at Ambleside while you were holding this rosey-cheeked and blond haired little bundle. I can see, very clearly, like it was yesterday, this new little baby in your arms and the expression of love and joy on both of your faces as you locked eyes....It was thrilling for me to see that love. What happiness your precious little Canadian baby brought you.
I send you love and strength and as much courage as you need to help get you through the emptiness you must all be feeling. Holding you close, always. Juliana Leahy (Gildersleeve)

To all of the Van De Poll family, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Stewart's passing. He was one of the original faces in my Kindergarten class photo, and always had a smile on his face. I will always remember him with his blue Hawaii 76 t-shirt and pooka shell necklace. May your memories of Stewart comfort you at this time. So sad.

To the van de Poll family, I am so very, very sad to read of Stewart's passing. I have known him and worked with him at the LDB for many, many years and have shared a lot of laughs with him. We, my husband and I, live in the Bayview Apts. and had many visits with Stuart when he lived here. He called us from Holland on a few occasions and we talked for ages. I will miss seeing him sitting on a seawall bench with his mother and will think of him when I walk the seawall. We are so sorry for your loss.

To the family, my aunt, Johanna van de Poll Sanger, my nieces and nephews: my condolences. I will pray for Stewart here in Dublin, saying a Eucharist for him. I never met him, but heard about him from my mother and brothers and sister, his aunt and niece and nephews in the Netherlands. As a Dutch Jesuit I pray also for you all. God bless.
