Albert Abel Obituary

Albert Carl Abel, 76, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, surrounded by family.
Born on March 5, 1938 near Waco, Texas, Al moved to Houston in 1962. A friend and mentor to many people, he loved to help hard working young men find their way in life. He took great pride in guiding them and in celebrating their accomplishments and success. He loved to laugh and his sense of humor made him a pleasure to be around. He had a special greeting for everyone he met, and always made you feel like you were a friend he cared about.
After moving to Houston, Al started work with Cameron Ironworks. While working for Cameron, he became interested in real estate and invested his earnings in apartments throughout the city. Being a wise businessman, Al insisted on fixing everything himself. He learned how to fix refrigerators, air conditioners, dishwashers and all other plumbing and electrical problems that homeowners face. Ultimately, this led Al into the air conditioning business and the founding of Abel Air Conditioning and Heating. Al worked hard to build a successful business and there were many employees who were given an opportunity to earn their own success through hard work.
Upon his retirement he began restoring automobiles working on everything from buses to Model-A's. His first of many projects was refurbishing a burned-out bus so that he could travel to Arizona with his friends. Throughout his life, he was an avid lover of Texas, enjoyed traveling with his friends to Big Bend, the West, and was always willing to engage in great conversations about Texas history and the early days. He also enjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman.
He left the world a better place rich with memories, friendships and a loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Zube, and his father, Arnold Claude Abel. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette T. Abel, daughter Cissy Abel and grandson Cole Jackson Smither, son Albert C. Abel, Jr. and his wife Suzanne, son Ashley T. Abel and wife Carol, and grandson Ashley Abel, Jr., stepdaughter Darla Kujet and husband Ron, and stepson Kevin Scott.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, October 6th at half past Eleven o'clock in the morning at the Bradshaw-Carter home, 1734 W. Alabama St., Houston, Texas 77098. Visitation will be followed by a memorial service at Bradshaw-Carter and burial at Glenwood Cemetery.
