Albert Townsend Obituary

Albert Hugh Townsend
1944-2017
Albert Hugh Townsend lost his courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on October 18, 2017, at the age of 73. His family wishes to thank all of the doctors, nurses and researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their support, encouragement and friendship over the last two years. And, for giving us time with him we would not have otherwise had.
Albert was born in Houston on July 6, 1944, to Don K. and Floy M. Townsend. He graduated in 1962 from Spring Branch High School. His time there was full of childhood pranks, fast cars, and friends, whose love for each other endures to this day. In 1964, Albert married Jane C. Countryman, with whom he shared a life, and love for their son Lee, for 15 years. For 40 years, he worked for A.G. Edwards and Sons a Certified Financial Planner, where he loved helping others achieve their financial dreams. In 1981, Albert and Julieann Hollingsworth Abel found each other. They shared many adventures racing sailboats, golfing and ranching. Their families were joined at their ranch, on the banks of the Nueces River, on May 19, 1990.
After their retirement, Albert and Julie moved to their farm in Uvalde, where they raise show goats.
Albert's greatest loves were his family, this Country for the freedom and opportunities it offers most of all God. Through all of his trials, Albert never lost his faith in His miracles and Love.
Albert is survived by his wife Julieann Townsend; his son Lee Townsend of Houston; Trey Abel, his wife Tonya, and their children Shelby and William of Friendswood, Texas; and Heath Abel his wife Erika, and their daughters Elli and Alex of Temple, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Donna K. Townsend, of Austin.
A memorial service will be held on November 4, 2017, at 4:00 PM, in the chapel of the 501 Ranch just outside of Uvalde. All who wish to celebrate Albert's life are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to: MD Anderson Cancer Center Leukemia Research, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 727210-4486. Please note Albert's name and Leukemia Research.

Al was the first financial planner I ever had, starting a long relationship with him back in 1981. He truly enjoyed helping a novice investor like me to learn how to plan for the future and grow my nest egg.

He opened my eyes about the benefits of long term planning, how to track my stock purchases to see total costs and returns so as to avoid only remembering the "winners" and forgetting any "losers", introduced me to the American Funds and the benefits of reinvesting earnings to avoid front load fees, and how to buy and sell Treasury bonds for profit (in the days of high interest rates).

Al also shared his insights beyond financial planning helping me to understand that accumulating money was only a means to enjoy life and to give back to others. I feel blessed to have known Al.

Skip and I had many adventures together. Although our relationship had had not been close over the last 30 or so years I truly enjoyed the last year and a half reconnecting with him. Julie, my hart goes out to Lee, you and your family.

Skipper and I started our music lessons at Ridgecrest Elementary...he had a silver cornet and I began with a trumpet. What a great pal and creative buddy through growing up years in Spring Branch.

No one could have had a better partner to work with, a better skipper to race with,
a better friend to admire, respect and enjoy.
Smooth sailing ahead, Albert
