Alexandrina Smith Obituary

Alexandrina Blair Smith
05/04/1942 - 11/05/2025
Alexandrina "Sandra" Smith, beloved wife, mother, mum mum, sister and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 5.
Sandra was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, on May 4, 1942, the fourth of five daughters to Harry and Catherine Michie. It was in St. Andrews at Madras College Primary School that she met her future husband and love of her life, William "Sandy" Smith, at the age of eight years old. Theirs was a true love story, written in dedication, loyalty and deep affection that never wavered.
After marrying in 1964, they moved to Los Angeles for what they thought would be a three-year stint abroad. Over the years, they also lived in New York, Caracas, Curacao, and Miami before finally settling in Houston in 1976 with their three children. They made lifelong friendships everywhere they lived and cherished the many adventures they shared traveling the world with dear friends.
Sandra was a gracious hostess, renowned for her legendary New Year's Eve parties and her warm, affectionate greetings-often calling guests "Darling Angel" and "Loved One." She had a gift for making everyone feel special and welcomed.
She was a devoted volunteer who gave countless hours to the Assistance League of Houston, where she received the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award for outstanding "behind-the-scenes" service. She also dedicated her time to the Ronald McDonald House and to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. At the church, she served in numerous roles, including organizing the all-church lunches-back when email and texting didn't exist.
Sandra was beloved by her children and all their friends. She logged more miles than a taxi driver, chauffeuring them to golf and soccer camps, gymnastics, baseball, softball, and football games. When not driving, she was planning and cooking meals. Breakfast was on the table, lunches made, and dinner planned before the rest of the house was even awake. She lovingly prepared dinner each night for her family of five, often welcoming her children's friends who conveniently stopped by around dinner, knowing they'd be fed, too. Her banana bread and sausage rolls were favorites among all who were lucky enough to taste them.
Affectionately known as Mum Mum, Sandra loved being a grandmother. She showered her "Darling Angels" with love and endless affection, creating memories they will cherish forever. She often said one of her greatest blessings was having all five of her grandchildren living just down the street. Sandra had a deep and abiding Christian faith-her well-worn Bible a testament to a lifetime of prayer and devotion. Her kind and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Christine Allardyce, Francis MacIntosh, and Anne Clark; brothers-in law Gilbert MacIntosh, Robert Black, Bruce Clark and her precious granddaughter Isobel Smith. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Sandy Smith; her "Loved Ones" Ken Smith (Barbara), Fiona Guinn (Shea), and Stephen Smith (Amy); and her "Darling Angels" Duncan, Colin, and Sophie Guinn, and Gregor and Logan Smith; as well as her beloved sister Grace Black, brother in law, David Allardyce and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Nelda Womack whose love and dedication the past few years were a constant source of strength.
The Smith family would like to thank her devoted caregivers, Judith Arroyo, Andrea Amaya, Lidia Amaya, Alta Garcia and Teresa Rivas for their generous support and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 17,2025 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in honor of Sandra Smith be directed to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church 11612 Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77024 or The Alzheimer's Association 6055 South Loop East Houston, Texas 77087.
