Anne Schlumberger Obituary

Anne Schlumberger
08/19/1939 - 04/22/2025
Anne-Marie Louise Schlumberger (Melcher, Bohnn) Brown begrudgingly passed away on April 22, 2025, in Houston, Texas.
Born in Paris, France on August 19, 1939, she immigrated to the United States with her parents following the German invasion in 1940.
Growing up in Houston, she graduated from The Kinkaid School in 1957, and from the University of Houston College of Architecture in 1979. She was happily married for 43 years to her three husbands.
She began her architecture practice in Houston, Texas, and for several years worked with her longtime best friend, classmate and business partner Edwin Eubanks at Eubanks/Bohnn Associates.
Gran'Anne was preceded in death by her parents Pierre Schlumberger and Claire Simone Schwob d'Héricourt, her sister Catherine Schlumberger, her brother Pierre M. Schlumberger and her half-brother Paul Schlumberger.
She is survived by her son, LeRoy Melcher (Janet), and their children, Max, Jennifer, Claire, Grace and Chase; by her son, Pierre Melcher, his children, Katie and Paul; by her son, Marc Melcher, his children, Lucie and Lily; and her stepchildren, Cress Bohnn and Chandler Gray. She is also survived by her sister, Christiane Schlumberger, (Tony Allina M.D.); her brother, Jacques Schlumberger (Barbara); her half-sister, Victoire Tardif; and her sister-in-law, Lesley Schlumberger.
Gran'Anne could be stubborn on occasion, but justified her "comportement alsacien" explaining "il n'y a pas de roses sans épines."
She was fond of summers caring for the chicken and sheep at her farm, where she enjoyed time with her grandchildren. With a better eye for art than marriage, she served on the boards of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Menil Collection.
The family greatly appreciates the frequent phone calls from Marlin Brown; the tireless love and support provided by Patsy Guerrero, who endeavored to keep a lid on the chaos; as well as by Claudia Fuentes, Patrick Mkanda, Alisha Williams, Katherine Iwekogu, Joy Toussant and Zongar Zorpeawon.

How sad to lose Anne. She was such a great influence on, and supporter of, my artwork. It was a privilege to know her. May she rest in peace.

Anne-Marie, I shall always miss you, and the 'comportement alsacien' that explained everything. In the kitchen, with the chickens, in the parting messages in the notebooks, along the last stretch of the road

Le, Pete, and Marc,
Condolences on the passing of your Mom. I love how the obit captures the wry and irreverent humor of your family. I enjoyed serving on the board of the Menil with Anne, where her comments were very direct and insightful. Blessings on her memory.

This death notice gives those who did not know Anne a sense of her particular pluck. It sounds as if she might have written it herself. I love that.

I knew Anne through the Houston Seminar and as a neighbor. A favorite memory is when she introduced me to her new puppy, Karma. She said she just like the idea of continually saying "Good Karma".

Anne, I hope your personal Karma leads you to good things in future lives. Your neighbors will miss you in this one.
