ARTHUR MONDAK Obituary

, a long-time resident of Middleburg Hts., passed away on September 22, 2020 at the age of 92. Art is survived by his wife Emma Mondak, his daughter Cindy Mondak-Peck and his son-in-law Rick Peck, his son Jeff Mondak and his daughter-in-law Damarys Canache, and his grandchildren Christopher Mondak, Greg Peck, Michelle Trogdon, and Ryan Mondak. Art was preceded in death by his siblings Betty Pawlicki, Andy Mondak, Frank Mondak, George Mondak, Ed Mondak, Bill Mondak, and Art's twin brother Jim Mondak. Art was born on August 7, 1928 in Lakewood. After graduating from Lakewood H.S. and attending Ohio State, Art worked for several years on the family farm in Middleburg Hts. He then worked in sales for over 30 years until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, Art traveled to Austria, Costa Rica, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, while also again dabbling in sales as the advertising coordinator for the local Middleburg publication "Our Community Voice." Charming, generous, funny, staggeringly hard-working, adventurous, a music lover, a sports fan, and a truly amazing and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. That's a glimpse at Art Mondak. Art was an accomplished pianist. In 1955, he sketched out the melody for a composition entitled "Be Honest with Yourself." In 2018, Art asked one of his grandsons to try to complete and record "Be Honest with Yourself," which he did. Last year, Art saw his composition appear on a jazz album, and he learned that "Be Honest with Yourself" had been played on radio stations across the country. Art certainly lived by the words "Be honest with yourself." Many years ago, when talking with a young man new to sales, Art was asked how he had stayed in the sales profession for over three decades. Art answered that it was all about treating people with honesty and respect, because "at the end of the day, you have to be able to look yourself in the mirror." That simple yet profound philosophy hopefully gives a sense of who Art Mondak was, how important he has been to so many, and why he will be so missed. Funeral service will take place in Tomon & Sons Funeral Home, 7327 Pearl Rd., Middleburg Hts., OH 44130, at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2020. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. MASKS ARE REQUIRED and ALL State of Ohio Covid-19 regulations will be followed. www.tomonfh.com

September 28, 2020

If there was a person that I would have nominated that personified the spirit, thoughtfulness, integrity of our community it would’ve been Art Mondak . My condolences to his wife Emma ,Cindy, Jeff, Rick, Dararys and his grandchildren and his vast number of friends. The Mondak family we’re literally my first supporters when I ran for city council in 1975 and supported me during my 38 years as mayor of our great city of Middleburg Heights. Art would regularly visited my office at City Hall to suggest ideas on how to improve our city, share stories about his wonderful family, golf, and politics. He was especially helpful with his background In agronomy and lawn care . That is why all our City Hall property looks spectacular. One of his many proud memories was the honor of being invited to the White House and meeting President Harry Truman and having his photograph taken with him. I truly wish there were more Art Mondak’s in the world today. Mayor Gary W. Starr (Retired)
