Bill Shaver Obituary

Funeral services for BILL SHAVER, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, of Richmond, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 18, 2005 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, Texas. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., Sunday, April 17, 2005 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, Texas. Bill was born February 13, 1932 in Grapeland, Texas to Bethley Shaver and Eva Murdoch Shaver. He passed away April 14, 2005 in Sugar Land, Texas. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Sugar Land, Bill also was a member of the Lion's Club, Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Directors of the Brazos Valley School Credit Union and the University Scholastic League. Bill was a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Superintendents. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bethley and Eva Shaver and his older brother, Maurice Shaver. Bill is survived by his adoring wife of 11 1/2 years, Alana Shaver, of Richmond; son: John Randolph Shaver and his wife, Janet of Stafford; daughter: Patricia Lynn Dillender and her husband, Glen, of Katy; step son: Robert Lee Quintanilla and wife, Andrea, of Missouri City; grandchildren: Jason, Danielle, Kelly, Jeffrey and Logan; great grandchildren: Jackson and Audrey; brothers: Bobby Wilson Shaver and wife, Dee, of Houston; Larry Gene Shaver and wife, JoAnn, of Nashville, TN; sister: Margie LeGendre and her husband, James, of Vidor; also, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Bill was an educator who gave 42 years of dedicated service to the children of the Texas Public School System. He graduated from Grapeland High School where he excelled in football and other sports for the Grapeland Sandies. He graduated from Lamar Tech in Beaumont, and began his career as a coach in Lovelady, Texas. He and his family moved to Stafford where he was head coach for Missouri City High School. He then began his long career with the Fort Bend ISD when Missouri City and Sugar Land High Schools consolidated. He was a coach, assistant principal, and principal at Dulles High School. He was an Assistant Superintendent when he left Fort Bend to become the Superintendent of Schools at Bellville ISD. He retired after twelve years at Bellville due to the ravages of Parkinson's Disease. He never met a stranger and touched the lives of everyone he met, but none more than his beloved children, Randy and Pattie. He loved all sports but football was his passion. He cherished his memories from Dulles High Scholl where he coached several district championship teams, a quarterfinal championship game in 1962 vs. Sinton, and the highlight of his career, the Texas State Championship games in 1963 vs. Rockwall. He could recall every play, every score, and the name of all his players. His family asks that you remember him with a smile and know that he is in Heaven telling stories, planning a practical joke, and coaching the angels in a touch football game. Pallbearers will be the members of the 1963 State Championship Football team at Dulles High School. For those wishing, memorials in Bill's name can be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Harris County 7457 Harwin, Suite 308, Houston, Texas 77036-2025 or the American Heart Association Texas Affiliate P.O. I haven't seen Randy in over 40 years, since we were crazy little kids. However, I remember him and his beautiful parents as if it were yesterday.

My prayers are with them.

Coach Shaver was my family's dear friend and neighbor and we are all sad to hear of his passing. My mother and father (Lynn & Eldee), sister (Diane) and I - all send our love and condolences to Randy and Patti and the whole family. Your father touched our lives in many ways. He was a kind, compassionate man and I loved seeing him and talking to him - after so many years - at the Dulles reunion. He was a loving soul who is resting in peace now. My best wishes to all. Love, Carol

Mr. Shaver was my 1st principal in 1974. I will never forget what a wonderful man he was. He made others feel important to the task at hand. Mr. Shaver ran Dulles High School with efficiency and productivity, but he knew how to make it fun! Always ready to play a practical joke or share a laugh, he will be missed! God bless his family. May the memories you share of him bring you peace. I am proud to have known and worked for him.

Bill Shaver served as one of my first real role models of an educator. He was a great coach for us in 62 and 63 but it was his ability to educate young people that was great importance to me. I have been in education ever since and continue to this day to remember the imprint that Coach Shaver had on my life.

Mr.Shaver hired me in my first teaching position at Dulles High School 29 years ago and I am still with Ft. Bend I.S.D. today.I also met my wife of 22 years at D.H.S. during that time. I remember his faculty meetings the most, he always began them with a monologue that Johnny Carson couldn't touch. He had us all laughing with his jokes. Many thanks to Mr.Shaver. May God comfort his family at this time.

I'm very sorry to hear about Mr. Shaver's passing. I have fond memories of him from Dulles High School. My parents (Lou & Virginia Hans) also knew him, as they also were educators with Fort Bend ISD (now retired). Mr. Shaver will definitely be missed.
