Byron Kane Obituary

BYRON LYLE KANE, born April 16, 1930 to Claude and Orpha Kane in La Junta, Colorado, died in Kingwood, TX on June 6, 2004 at the age of 74. Byron served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant. During the Vietnam Conflict Byron joined the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Lieutenant. Byron dutifully served in the Navy until his retirement in 1985 at the rank of Captain. During Byron's distinguished career in the Naval Intelligence he was given many leadership assignments, with his last assignment being in charge of all of the Naval Reserve Intelligence personnel for the southeast United States. After obtaining his Masters in Geology in 1958 from South Dakota School of Mines Byron began his career as a geologist in Lafayette, Louisiana with Texaco and later worked in New Orleans for Lockheed Engineering Services Company, during the Apollo Program, and in Houston for Cabot Corporation, Energy Reserves Group and then retiring from IP Petroleum. After his retirement, Byron enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending special time with his family. Byron leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Jerry, daughter Pam, son Tim and daughter-in-law Rita, grandsons Jason, Stephen, and Alan, sister Nyleen and brother-in-law Helmer Pederson of Richfield Minnesota and many other relatives and friends. There will be a Memorial service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church, 5520 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, TX. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Association, 2909 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77025.

I have very fond memories of Byron Kane. I worked with him several years at IP and have never met a more friendly, warm person. I would often see Byron & his wife shopping at the grocery store in Kingwood; they were never too busy to stop and visit. God Bless Byron, and please enlighten Jerry and his family left behind...
