Carl Dalio Obituary

Carl "Chuck" Lee Dalio III
1949-2016
Carl "Chuck" Lee Dalio III, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on March 27, 2016 at the age of 66 at his home in Houston, Texas surrounded by his devoted family.
Born the 7th of July 1949 in Houston, Texas to Bettye Louise Dalio and Carl Lee Dalio, Jr., Chuck attended Lee High School and graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in accounting. After college he forged a long and distinguished career in the oil and gas pipeline industry, where he was known as a pioneer and a man of true character. His crowning professional achievement was the founding and building of Pipeline Supply and Service Company, which through Chuck's hard work and ingenuity became the industry standard for quality and integrity. Chuck cared for the employees of his company like they were family and cherished deep personal relationships with many of them. He was an active member of the pipeline community, holding memberships with the Pipeliners Association of Houston, American Pipeline Contractors Association, and Pipe Line Contractors Association.
Chuck was a passionate outdoorsman with a deep love for hunting and fishing. His passion for hunting and fishing was born early through trips around the Texas countryside with his loving grandfather. Chuck enjoyed a variety of outdoor pursuits equally, but there is no more quintessential image of Chuck in the outdoors than his chasing quail through the South Texas brush with Bea, his favorite bird dog. Chuck took great pleasure in sharing the outdoors with friends and family, treasuring the opportunity to share a fishing boat or hunting blind with an old friend, daughter, son-in-law or grandson. Always a leader and creator, he was a founding member of several memorable hunting and fishing camps, including Tilden, Kennedy Ranch, and Menefee.
Chuck treasured the game of golf. He loved its traditions of strong principles and camaraderie. Chuck and his wife, Shawn, shared the game together with a group of dear friends. They played all over the world together but were equally happy on their home course, Lakeside Country Club, where Chuck was a member for 30 years.
Chuck cared deeply for his community and generously served it. For many years he was a pillar of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving as a Lifetime Committeeman and Vice Chairman of the Parade Committee from 1993-1996. A man of deep faith, Chuck provided continued support for Memorial Assistance Ministries and was a member of the Church of St. John the Divine, where you could find him with Shawn every Sunday sitting in the pews.
Chuck's greatest love was his family, and he was theirs. In addition, he was blessed to have very special friends spanning generations, most of whom treasured the many stories he would share about his life experiences. His father, Carl Lee Dalio Jr., preceded Chuck in death. Chuck is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shawn Gallagher Dalio, who adored him with all of her heart; his children, who were the true focus and joy of his life: Katherine Dalio Hochner and husband Alex, Kelly Dalio Tepper and husband Adam, and Leigh Dalio Joseph and husband Christopher; his grandchildren Lee Cullen Hochner, Owen Alex Hochner, Jackson Laurence Tepper, and Graham Taylor Tepper; his mother Bettye Louise Dalio; and sisters Debra Dalio Stephens and Derwanna Dalio Grover.
The family is grateful for the care and devotion of his physicians, Dr. Merrill Kies and Dr. David Rosenthal, as well as Lucas Baumann. Honored to serve as casket bearers are David Dale Dacus, Christopher Marshall Fort, Ronnel Lynn Fort, Alex Hochner III, Christopher Elkins Joseph, David Todd Keymer, Adam Laurence Tepper, and Thomas Herbert Vann. Serving as honorary pallbearers are James Wesley Christian, John Michael Kafka, John Ellis O'Neill, Stuart Christopher Vann, Thomas Bennett Vann, Trenton Willoughby Vann, and Robert Lambert Zorich.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 30th of March, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston.
The memorial service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, the 31st of March, at the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Douglas W. Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, is to officiate. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Carl Lee Dalio III may be directed to Memorial Assistance Ministries, 1625 Blalock Road, Houston, TX 77080; or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.

Shawn, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. His obituary paints the image of a wonderful man who lived life to the fullest and who loved his family. That is not a surprise that you were married to him, considering what a wonderful woman you are. May God put his arms around you and hold you close in your time of sorrow.
