Thought of my car enthusiast friend this weekend and his love of classic cars while purchasing a 1967 Camaro. He would have been as excited as I was picking it up. I miss hanging out with Brett and talking cars. TC

I met Brett on the first day of second grade and we were friends ever since. He was my roommate at UT and Austin probably still hasn't recovered. Brett was one of the funniest, most entertaining guys I ever met. He was truly a man with no enemies. Rest in peace, my friend. See you in Heaven when I get there. Get us an afternoon tee time.

Beginning with the experiences we shared and the things we did both together and with friends in my teen years and throughout my early twenties, and then continuing through the succeeding decades and into the last few years, Brett had a direct influence on shaping the person I have become. He lives on ...

Brett, I knew you were special in my 2nd grade classroom at Andy Woods. You were so bright and inquisitive. What an amazing group of students I had that year. Fortunately, Facebook came along and allowed me to get reacquainted with you many years later along with other classmates in that same class-David Dorey and Duane Lebel. I shared your cancer battle with awe of your courage and determination. You inspired us all. You are my hero! I am so glad that you are now no longer in pain and in a better place but grateful for having you in my class and getting to know you as an adult. You were an amazing person!

I met Brett for the first time outside Mrs. Cates 2nd grade classroom where at the age of 7 proceeded to talk way over my head about cars and a race he had seen that weekend. We shared classes throughout public school and hooked up in Austin as well. He was someone who always made you smile and genuinely enjoyed himself and you. I think of lunches in high school spent racing back and forth in his corvair. The time he and a few others found me asleep watching TV in my apartment and taped empty beer cans all over me along with copious amounts of shaving cream. He was my oldest friend and someone I will miss. It wasn't supposed to end this way but it did. He handled it with amazing grace and vigor and inspired in his will to fight. I'm only happy he is now out of pain and with the Lord. And I'm happy to say he was my friend and one of the best of us all.

In high school, I remember Brett was coming to pick me up to go to something or other, and my Dad heard the Corvair coming from about a block away and said, "You're not going out in that thing!" :)I have so many fond memories of Brett from schoool and Tyler Civic Theatre. I am saddened to see the news about Brett. Many years ago, I worked with him at Aetna in Tyler. My memories of him are that he was always upbeat, professional and fun all at the same time. I have not seen him in many years but also used to work with his mom, Paula. Such a sweet lady. Brett was an awesome co-worker and friend. So sorry for the family's loss. Praying for comfort & peace that passes understanding for his loved ones.
