Cheryl Drain Obituary
05/26/1956 - 05/23/2023
Cheryl passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with her husband and youngest sister by her side. She was born at The Negro Hospital in Houston, Texas on May 26, 1956. She was educated in the public schools of Houston and graduated from Texas Southern University. She shared her God given talent and love of music throughout her life. Her professional career started at the Houston Lighting and Power Company in the 80s and culminated with her retirement from HISD's Westbury High School after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Cheryl will be greatly missed by her family, former coworkers, church members and friends. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Herbert; 3 stepchildren, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 1 brother-in-law, 4 nephews, 3 nieces, 3 great-nephews, 6 great-nieces, 1 aunt, 1 uncle, 5 god-children and a host of cousins and friends. She will lie in state on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 2pm-6pm, Visitation and Memorial Service observation from 6pm-8pm. Viewing Friday, June 2, 2023, from 10-10:55am. Funeral Service will begin at 11am. All services will be held at New Faith Church 4315 West Fuqua Street, Houston, TX 77045. Dr. Andre Lewis, Pastor. Interment immediately following at Houston Memorial Gardens.

My family and met Ms. Cheryl through New Faith Church. She was the first person we worked with, during the pandemic. She reminded me so much of my mother! I loved her spirit. She would text me just to check in and when I was struggling, I knew I could reach out and she would be there to encourage me to keep it up. Always a smile! My children looked fwd to seeing her weekly. Condolences to the family. I pray you all are surrounded with love and support. How blessed we have been to know her even for a short while.

This box isn't big enough to explain how much I'll miss Ms. Cheryl. What a force of nature, positive influence, and loving spirit she was. I'm thankful to God He assigned me and my kids to her, and she heeded the call. She took us under her wing since we joined New Faith, and she never let us go over the time we were blessed to know her. I knew I'd be in trouble if we missed a couple Sundays... I'd see her name show up on my phone (when she called and didn't text, then I knew I was probably in trouble lol) and she'd say, "Where my chirren been?" I'd have some excuse she usually wasn't trying to hear, and I'd have our tails back at church the following Sunday, lol! She celebrated our wins and comforted us in our losses. She always went to bat for me and my kids, filling in the gap however she could knowing I'm a single mother. We will absolutely never forget her.
My deepest condolences to Rev. Drain, and all her family and friends. Thank you for sharing her with us.
