Joanna & Brandon,
I’ve thought a long time about what I can say to you. David was and always will be my “big brother”. He loved to tease me when we were kids and still loved teasing me as an adult. When we were younger he always watched out for me. One time mom told us to pick-up our room and I was busy playing, so David cleaned my room so I wouldn’t get into trouble. He was always protective of who I dated and watched out for me. David was a great big brother. I have read what so many of his friends have said about him and I admire the man he was. What a blessing to have so many friends who cared about him.
Brandon, your dad loved you and I know he was so proud of you. I pray that you will know the joy and compassion that your dad had. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” The only comfort and peace we have is knowing that David is in Heaven experiencing eternal life with Christ Jesus and we will be together again.
All my love to both of you! Connie

Many entries to the guest book have been addressed to Brandon and me. I would like to address this to Lee, Nita, Connie, Michael and Stephen. I thank you from the depths of my heart for the 25 years that you let me have part of David. He was an amazing soul. He is the love of my life. I knew very early in our relationship what an amazingly tender, people person and absolute nutcase he was and I was hooked. He made people laugh, feel safe, and know that they could trust him with anything. He learned this from all of you. The family that you are brings out the unique, beautiful gifts that each one of you possesses. He will live on in each of you, me and Brandon. May God keep you close to His heart. Thank you for being our rock in this most difficult time. We love and cherish you all.

My deepest condolences to your family. I worked with David the past 7 years and now that I am abroad we had some wonderful night time telephone chats. He was a very good man who loved his family, and spoke evil of no man. His spirit will live on. May you find comfort in knowing he is in now resting in the loving arms of God.

Joanna and Brandon,

I absolutely agree and echo everything Michael said. David is with Jesus now and is free of pain. One of the songs that David liked was Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I can’t help but think of the scripture from Isaiah 40: 29-31, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” David is indeed free and is with the Lord.

Please also know that Amy and I will always be there for both of you. Let us know if there is anything you need, and we will be there! We love you both very much.

Joanna and Brandon,
There is not enough space for me to say all my thoughts and feelings about David, so I will mention a few things. I loved David and will continue to love David for the rest of my life. David's life is not over! We must believe that David is in the care of Christ now. He spent his life caring for others, most complete strangers. Only appropriate that someone care for him now...who better than Jesus Christ! I admired David for his calling of caring for others in their time of need. Takes a special person to do that year after year. Please know that Angela and I will always be there for you. Don't be shy! You are NEVER imposing to us!
My favorite part from the Bible helps me when I feel lost or confused or hurt...it is helping me now and I hope it helps you!

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4: 4-7

David was my suite mate in the dorm my first two years at Sam Houston, as well as my fraternity brother. He was a true friend, a great person and an oustanding Sig Ep. Our prayers will be with Joanna, Brandon and all of the Hines family during this difficult time. David will be missed and his memory will have a lasting impact upon us all.

I too am a Sig Ep from Sam Houston State University. Brandon, while I have not had the pleasure of meeting you, I did have the honor of knowing your father. As has been said, David was one or the nicest people I have ever known. I will never forget how David was there for me in my critical hour of need, as I am certain he was for many others. Joanna, please know that you and Brandon are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you!

David was my fraternity "Little Brother." Even more importantly, David was my friend. I can honestly say that David was one of the finest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was someone whom I respected deeply. We met around 1981 and did a lot of things together over the years since. I was honored to be in his wedding and he honored me by being in mine. I cannot express how sad I am at his loss. I find comfort in the fact that he is in a better place now. I know that one day we will see each other again. In the meantime, I submitted a few photos of some of our fun times together.

Joanna and Brandon, I, along with the Sig Ep brotherhood are here for you. Never hesitate to call if you are in time of need. Rest assured, we will never forget David, as he was truly one of a kind. I pray that you find peace in knowing how much he was loved and respected by everyone he touched. Bless you both.

I was a Sig Ep with David at Sam but a few years older. Although we will miss him and grieve with you, we also celebrate with you his life well lived and the legacy he has left. Having gone through the death of our 18-year old daughter Brittany in Jan 06 we know there are no words we can say to comfort you other than we will be praying for you, Brandon and the rest of the family.

I have known David since he started working at AIG. He was an integral part of the medical team, and will always be well remembered. He always talked lovingly about his family and enjoyed telling us about his son Brandon. There are no words to convey our sorrow for your loss, but to offer the friendship that we shared with David to you and your family.

Respectfully,
